CRC location
Can someone describe the location of CRC (Camp Red Cloud) and driving direction from Yongsan Garrison to CRC?
I also want to know which subway station is the closest to CRC (Uijongbu or Ganung). I am looking at one map from internet; is Kyong-Min University and E-mart near by CRC? Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Re: CRC location
From Yongsan to CRC:
1. Turn right out Yongsan Gate 17 and immediately get in the left lane. Turn left at the light and cross over the train tracks. Go approximately 500 meters and turn left at the three-way intersection. Go approximately 500 meters and turn right at the sign indicating the entrance to the Han River Riverside Park. This entrance is just before the 7-11 store on the right side of the road and Hangaram apartment building 208 on the left side of the road. 2. Follow the road to the park for 400 meters (you will pass through a tunnel) and turn left at the three-way intersection (right next to the river's edge). Go approximately 200 meters and turn left at the sign that indicates an entrance ramp to Gang-byon Buk-no (Riverside Road North). Go approximately 60 meters and turn right (it's a one way) onto the entrance ramp of Riverside Road North. 3. You will be heading east on the north side of the Han River when you get on Riverside Road North. Go approximately 5.5 kilometers, generally staying in the right two lanes. You will be looking for Dong-bu Gan-sun Doro (sorry - don't know of an English name for this road). After 5.5 kilometers, the road splits and the right two lanes circle around to the right and pass underneath Riverside Road North. It is best to stay in the left side (outer) lane once you enter the circular entrance ramp to Dong-bu Gan-sun Doro. From the time you get on Riverside Road North, until the point where you get to Dong-bu Gan-sun doro, you will have passed by (under) four big bridges (the last one being the Dong-hoBridge). 4. Follow Dong-bu Gan-sun Doro for approximately 18 kilometers. At some point, it eventually goes from three lanes to two lanes, with the right lane becoming an exit ramp, so as a general rule, stay out of the right lane. After passing under the Sang gye ji-ha-cha-do (vehicular underpass) – you are getting very close to the exit. After passing under this ji-ha-cha-do get in the right lane. You will take the exit that says "Dobong Stn / Suraksan Stn," which is exactly one mile after passing under the Sang gye ji-ha-cha-do. The last apartment building you will pass on the right before the exit is the "Buk-bu Hyundai Hometown 101.” Actually, the apartment name is written in Korean, but the giveaway is that the building that you can see is numbered "101." Although not conspicuous, you know you need get off when you see a little 18 km marker sign on the side of the road (actually, it's on the retaining wall - right side of the road) about a half-mile before the exit. 5. After taking the exit, follow it down about 200 - 300 meters, and turn to the left, going underneath the road you just got off (as opposed to following the road as it bends sharply around to the right). There are two speed bumps at the end of the exit ramp, you turn left after the second speed bump. Go underneath Dong-bu Gan-sun Doro, go approximately 50 meters and come to a stop light (which is also underneath Dong-bu Gan-sun Doro). Turn left at that light. 6. Go through two stop lights going down 1.4 miles and turn right onto Route 3. You will know you are in the spot where you need to turn because it is under an overhead train tracks (you turn just after passing underneath the tracks). At this point, you will experience heavy traffic for the rest of the trip if you’re traveling during the daytime. As a general rule, stay in one the two lanes on the left after making the turn. 7. Go 3 kilometers and you will see the entrance to an elevated road, which you will enter. Follow this elevated road for approximately 5 kilometer (it's a brand new, wide-open road and people really drive fast). There’s a toll booth along this road that is not being used – just blow right through it. There is a speed trap camera after the toll booth, so you need to watch out for that. After 5 kilometers you will go through a short tunnel (get in the left lane as you approach the tunnel). Follow the road as it bends around to the right and you come down from the elevated road. At the point where you are back at normal elevation – Camp Red Cloud is to your left. 8. The next traffic light you encounter is at the front gate of CRC – but you are not allowed to make a left turn there, so just drive through it. Stay in the left lane and go down to the next traffic light and make a u-turn. Go back to the CRC main gate and turn right, and you are at CRC. 10. For Camp Casey, just cruise right past the main gate of Red Cloud and follow the mail road straight. After about a mile (never measured this segment, so go with points of reference more than the distance) you’ll see signs for Highway 3 and arrows pointing left to go to Dong Du Chon (TDC). Get a REALLY GOOD MENTAL PICTURE of this intersection because on the way back it will slip right by you and then you’re stuck in the middle of Uijungbu. Turn to the left at this point and just head north for 18 kilometers or so. You’ll pass through a few towns along the way. Once you see the signs that say welcome to TDC, you’ve still got 5 kilometers or so to go. Just head straight down that road and keep an eye out for the main gate of CampCasey, which will be on the right. If you travel to CRC by train and get off at Uijongbu Station: -get off the train, and go up the steps and turn right -go through the turnstile and head to the left -go down the steps and exit the station -you will see what used to be Camp Falling Water (US Army base) on your left -walk past Camp Falling Water and walk along the wall of the camp to the main road (maybe 100 meters from the station itself) -turn left when you get to the main road and continue walking along the wall until you get to the crosswalk (at the light) and then cross the street -cross the street and turn right and walk back up the street to the bus stop -get on bus #1, 2, or 5. DO NOT GET ON #3. -Ride the bus for about ten minutes and get off at the bus stop located directly across the main gate of CRC -Make sure you push the button ahead of time to let the bus driver know you want to get off at the bus stop in front of CRC |

Re: CRC location
Thank you willy for another nice post. How long does it usually take (by car) from CRC to Yongsan on Friday evening with normal Korean traffic and vice versa on Sunday night?

Quote:
After 1600, typically, it will take 90-120 minutes. Late at night with minimal traffic, it takes as little as 35 minutes. Sundays are kind of strange...you'd think there wouldn't be a lot of traffic. But Saturday is a work day for many people in Korea - Sunday is their only day off. And a lot of people just like to jump in the car and go for a ride. So traffic can be bad even on Sunday. Barring an accident blocking traffic or some other unforseen traffic problem, traveling from Yongsan up to CRC on Sunday evening should only take around 50-60 minutes. |
