Re: What does this say?
The first one, you mean the big letters on the Orange part of the sign? That says it's a Sauna and the second one is a bath house I think. My korean is basic level, but that seems to be what they are advertising.
What exactly are you looking for?

Re: What does this say?
In order to understand the meaning of the first sign, you really have to break it down a bit.
The first syllable is "jang" (장). It's kind of hard to translate by itself, but basically it means "average class motel." That's not the literal meaning, but when it's used in relation to buildings related to lodging, that's really what it means. You'll often see average class motels in Korea and the last syllable in the name will be "jang." It's just a little hint as to what you can expect if you decide to rent a room there. I've heard from a good Korean friend that motels with "jang" in the their name might be an indication that it's the kind of place where you might be able to get "special services." He winked at me when he told me that. The second syllable "ahn" (안) means "inside." Of course, the last three syllables are the word "sauna." So when you put it all together, and loosely translate it, it means "average type motel with sauna." If you want to get a literal translation, it would simply be "indoor sauna." But to translate it that way would leave out some rather important info. Because if you take your family to a place like this, the kids might hear some sounds in the middle of the night that'll probably make you wish you'd stayed elsewhere. The second sign is very straight forward - it says "bathing." As in - taking a bath. |

Re: What does this say?
Well it is right next to my house and I always wondered what it was. He has some weird hours too! It opens at about 3am and closes at around 8pm, or sometimes 9.
Good to know... thanks! |

1. $)C@e >H ;g?l3*(jang-ahn Sauna)
-@e >H (Jang-ahn); means downtown in chinese character, it's the name of this public bath. -Sauna; means public bath in Korea. It's different with JJihm-Jihl-Bahng, private bath, or motel. 2. ?@4C 8q?eGU4O4Y( 3a.m~8p.m) It's "Open" sign board for today. That's the typical business hour of public bath. Generally speaking, JJihm-jihl-Bang's business hour is 24hours. Motel too, but if rooms sold out... more questions, please feel free to click "quote" here jz Last edited by joezoh : 06-15-2007 at 04:44 PM. |
