LESSON 4. SENIOR CITIZEN (respect)

Now, we have learned about being cool and even ****yness. It's time to move on some serious topics. We are going to learn about BEING RESPECTFUL towards senior citizens. I've assumed some of you might have chance to see RESERVED SEATS FOR SEIOR CITIZENS signs on the subway. I'm proud of this. It is the korean culture to take care of older people and being polite to senior citizens. Showing respect could be various forms of activities such as bowing, carrying bags and ets. I just got one thing in my mind, back in old days... If you carry heavy bags or luggages. Some people try to carry your bags while you're standing. I can't see this anymore in Seoul . I'm not sure this practice has been fade away . A lot of foreigners thought that It was very strange without knowing this.I would like to point out a couple of things while using dialugues.

DUING DINNER (YOUNGBUCK is teenager, Mr JOE is senior citizen)
- Youngbuck invited Mr joe for dinner to talk about battle of midway and Tarawa.

a. Youngbuck: 어르신, 식사하십시요. (bowing)
EO RU SEEN, SIK SA HA SYP SEE YO
-> Mr. Joe. Enjoy your dinner (
-> youngbuck is not allow to touch spoon or anything on the tabel till Mr joe starts his dinner move. It is being respectful about older people and care about him. Youngbuck is hungry but he will be wating until Mr Joe is having dinner.

B. Mr. JOE : KU RAE 그래
OK
-> Mr Joe starts his dinner move and giving signs to youngbuck to start his own dinner.

C. youngbuck: 어르신, 이것좀 잡수세요.
EO RU SEEN , E GUT JOM JAB SUSE YO
-> YOUGBUCK suggeting Mr joe to try out Omega-3 filled salmon sushi. First, It is he's obligation to suggest him healty foods by secure Sushi's for him. It means that younbuck could eat a bowl of sushi but he has to control his hunger for senior citizen If there is third person (younger one) youngbuck needs to protect and serve Mr. JOe to supply enough Sushi by whatever it takes. Second, He is genuinley care about Mr joe and he wants him to eat as many sushi as possible.
