Britney Spears against Hyori Lee mud wrestling match!

Just kidding! I can dream though, can't I?

It does look like Brittney's people are contacting Hyori Lee's people over Plagiarism though.

Quote:
Representatives for the writers of the Britney Spears song "Do Something" have written to the producers of K-pop star Lee Hyo-lee saying parts of the title song in Lee's latest album "Get ya" are plagiarized. While this is not the first time the Korean pop industry has been accused of pilfering, it is the first time the copyright holder has formally complained.

Universal Music Publishing Korea, which handles copyright of "Do Something" here, said Thursday it sent a recording of "Get Ya¡" to the composers of the Spears song and the company that manages the copyright 15 days ago. In response, three out of the four composers agreed that the Lee song was significantly influenced by their own work and there are some parts that constitute plagiarism, Universal said.

There are no hard-and-fast criteria to decide what constitutes plagiarism in Korea, and any such allegations must be decided in court following a complaint by the author of the original work.

I'm surprised Spears' people even care of the plagarism (or even got their attention). That just shows how Korea's entertainment business has reached new heights; enough to intimidate an international superstar like Brittany. 10-15 years ago, many would be like, "Korea? Where's that?" Way to go, Team Hyori!

While there is a lot of re-makes/mixes they are still required to have permissions from the writer. There have been high school drama depts that have been taken to the courts for failing to obtain permissions to use copyrighted material.

One of the areas I believe Korea leads the world is with the selection of background music used. They have excellent taste. There favorites appear to be George Winston, Enya, Yanni, and Boney James.

Yes, Korea is required to adhere to Copyright laws. It depends on the damages in court. No there are no faux brands sold in the market areas. It is only an illusion <g>
