Kunsan Man - The Interim years (89-98)
So, back in 1988, I got back on the 'Roach Coach' flew back to Oakland, jumped over to a commercial flight, arrived in Detroit at 8am, My Mom picked me up, I drove home from the airport, we chatted, then she did some of my laundry while I went out and ran errands for her.
I arrived home around 3:30, Mom and I made more small talk, waiting for my step-father to arrive home from work around 6pm. Dinner table was set, Bill walked in, I said 'Hello', and promptly fell dead asleep on the most uncomfortable piece of furniture in the house, not even stirring amongst the clatter of utensils and the doing of the dishes. The next morning, when Bill headed out to work, I was in the same position as the night before. One Kunsan tour and expected Jet Lag later, Mission Complete. Time for England. Since my sister was living in NYC, I chose to visit her for the weekend before getting on the rotator for Europe and Mildenhall. There was a little shop at the corner of my sister's street that had one of those little salad bars in the front of the store. I needed some amenities, so I decided to make the trip to the corner while sis was at work on Friday. It turns out that their special was none other than kimchi. I brought home kimchi every day that weekend. I don't think the store ever sold out of the kimchi except for that weekend. My sister was happy to see me, but I think she was happier for the smell to dissipate after I had left. So I went to England for 3 years, returned to the States via Castle AFB, CA for another 3+ years going through a base closure before relocating to Scott AFB, IL. That's when those withdrawals I mentioned in the other thread reared their head. It was time to return to The Land of the Morning Calm. I updated my 'Dream' sheet and had an assignment quicker than you can say, 'Ppali ppali adashi"
