Why not? Army or AF? Marines or Navy wouldn't even ask such a question!
Sorry- I see now this is in the Kunsan area- so the question is AF... This used to be the norm at any AF installation, unless there was money to hire local help. Somtimes, in a secure area, for instance, locals can't get a clearance. So guess who does the manual labor? Maybe the Wolfpack idea isn't understood completely by all concerned. Did you know the Army does not allow Officers to Drive Military Vehicles? Do you know Navy Officers do not sit in a dining facility with enlisted folks? Do you know Naval Officers are authorized China and silverware, napkin holder and a tablecloth in their mess? Oh, the naivete of youth! [naivete,(Fr.) (2. deficiency in worldly wisdom or informed judgement) ] Except for dating between officers and enlisted, which can get both courts-martialed and even discharged, AF is pretty loose with officers partying with the enlisted- more so than other services, and I'm guessing the Wolfpack is no exception. Remember, even when comparing the AF with the Boy Scouts, both have Adult Leaders, and must be respected. Don't use first names, even when you have been drinking, and throw in a "Sir" or "M'am" often! Last edited by Mr. Joe : 09-01-2007 at 04:40 AM. |

Im sorry but I don't agree with this. I think that the LT's can do it same as the Pvts.

Agreeing or not doesn't change the rules. Comissioned Officers do not do manual labor, by regulation; not even in prison camps under the Geneva Convention!
Sometimes they volunteer, as in working on Habitat for Humanity building, or other volunteer work, but don't confuse this with equality. RHIP. |

Re: bay orderly for officers dorms?
It did happen. The AFI covering bay orderly states the legality. It's quasi lame, considering the lack of ability to clean up after yourself when the college degree is obtained, but that's just the way it goes.

This reminds me of the great photograph of John Wayne dressed as a real cowboy, with the caption, "There were some things they didn't tell me when I signed on for this job!".
I didn't enjoy pulling KP ("Kitchen Police" for those of you from Loma Linda), for 30 days before attending tech school. Twice! But I didn't begrudge the officers their privileges, as I had signed the oath of enlistment, which includes the words, "...I will obey the orders of the officers appointed over me..." |

Re: bay orderly for officers dorms?
Wow, such a mix of opinions! I would think most would disagree with cleaning up after someone elses junk. I've seen the dorms and the condition they were in while I was there in Kunsan, and it was such a disgrace that they posted it for all on base to see. Makes me wonder what their houses look like. Who cleans up after them at home? Do we send the enlisted in to care for their domiciles? I do think there is a huge distinction between manual labor concerning housing, and dorm maintenance. How far do we take this for cleaning up after officers? For those of you that think its ok and you took that oath, good on ya. We need people like you. You probably make their coffee. I will end with this, and I tell all my airmen who have dorm issues. "Your mother didnt join with you, so clean up your mess".

Re: bay orderly for officers dorms?
And a response specifically for Mr Joe. I'm not sure why you added the "naivete" portion, but I wish I was part of the "youth" you mention. I have over 40 years of self respect. Do you have self respect? This would probably change your opinion if you were as old as me.

No offense meant, MelG! I was just alluding to the fact that younger folks are usually the ones who seem to think that the military is like a democracy, or where everyone has an equal vote. As you know, if that were the case, you would be telling not only your airmen to clean up their own mess, but you would be telling the lieutenants, also!
I must agree that if the officer's quarters are, or were, a mess as you describe, they should be ashamed, and it would certainly be enough to make a senior NCO upset. Sorry about that. Keep on taking care of your airmen, they are the backbone of the AF. But also teach them to respect their Officers, despite the fact that some may live like animals. No one told you it would be easy! Best of luck to you! I don't believe common sense or self respect are necessarily improved by age or experience. But if it were true, I've got you in both departments! (I proudly retired from the Air Force in 1981.) Last edited by Mr. Joe : 09-02-2007 at 10:38 AM. |
