Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

When will ATown be permanently off-limits? As you all know, ATown bars are full of filipina's, who are mostly duped into going to Korea, and don't know what's exepcted of them until they get there and meet the mama's and pappas. Most come to Korea thinking that the promise of a singing career will be fullfilled, and instead, have to sit and get groped by drunk, tattooed GI thugs, who, through $10.00 juice purchases, line the pockets of people profiting from Human Trafficking. These girls are slaves, and you GI's are making their lives more miserable.

Come on Wolf! Shut down that abomination called ATown!! Be a responsible human being and stop the suffering of others. Your troops can whack off until their mid-tour. Start a fund to get those girls out of their evil contracts, and back home where they belong. You are taking advantage of their poverty. You are standing by while these women are exploited for profit. Would you want your daughter to be a juicy girl? Hell no you wouldn't! Why is it ok for others to be?

Cool Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

This has been going on since Cain killed Able. I personally have seen it since 1959. I find it difficult to believe the girls are fooled by the promise to be "entertainers". I believe many need the money, and also that many want to marry foreigners to escape the poverty in their country. This job provides that possibility. If they are actually being held against their will, then the Korean government has the responsibility to prevent that. They apparently don't spend a lot of time doing that. The military spends a lot of time educating the GI's about human trafficking. Every GI knows right from wrong in that respect! Guaranteed. Putting the town off limits has been done before, many times, in many countries. That has never been effective in the long run. Keeping men and women separated is against nature. Prohibition didn't work either! The Korean government should be asked to question the girls individually and provide them assistance if they request. The U.S. can use their influence to make that happen. Beyond that, life goes on, like it or not.

Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

Why is it that so much attention to Human Trafficking is directed at South Korea but no other county in Asia. Seems interesting that the same situation happens at Kadena, but everyone seems to look the other way. Why is that? Japan is also known as the leader in child porn and yet the US has turned a blind eye to that. Has the US Military put Angeles City off limits, I don't think so. Mr Joe you hit it one the head when you said it has gone on since the beginning of time. Human trafficking is a problem but can we really contol it? I don't think so. We also have a problem in the US. Most massage establishments in the US are a front for Human Trafficking. Yet we have a state (Nevada) that prostitution is legal! I guess different standards for counties. Time to standarize the policy. Same policy for everyone.

Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

Why you ask? It all started a few years ago with the 20/20 (i think) show that portraied Korea as being the Human Trafficking capital of the world and GI's were the main cause of it.

If you have not seen that show then you need to, it will open your eyes a little bit to what actually goes on in Korea. Not that we don't know but......

The club you described is almost every club in Korea. I had Courtesy Patrol last night here at Camp Humphreys. The woman in the clubs were wearing next to nothing and the GI's were all over them.

Nothing we do will ever change that.

Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

I spent 5 years in Korea in the 80s both at Osan and Suwon. This is a not just a problem in Korea. Try Japan, Philippines, Germany and quite a few other countries. Yet Japan and Germany have the same problem. Yet they are not as high profile as in Korea. Kadena AB in Japan has twice as many Filipinas and South America females working in the clubs, yet there are no off-limit areas. No areas that sponsor prostitution in Japan are off-limits. So maybe you can explain that. That 20/20 crew should have visited Angeles City or Japan. What about the Houses of Prostitution in K-Town Germany. K-Town is the largest American Community outside of the United States. Yet none of these areas get as much attention as Korea. As you can see if the United States went into those other countries and tried to eliminate the Human Trafficking problem they would be laughed at. If Human Trafficking is going to be reduced these other counties need to get serious with this problem.

Your proving my point with your statment......

This is my whole point, Korea WAS put on TV that showed all over the world.

Maybe if Japan was on 20/20 and Korea was not, then maybe it would be the other way around.

Cool Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

Prostitution is illegal in Nevada. Only one county, Nye County, Next door to Clark County (LV) used to allow it. I believe even their law has changed now. The old Chicken Ranch and other county sanctioned houses are gone. Know that "Illegal" and "Overlook" are two different things. Entertainment areas worldwide overlook certain things that bring in lots of money. Even Colleges overlook or adjust students grades if they are good football atheletes!
The U.S Government tries to be all things to all people. Sometimes it seems we/they want to save the world from itself! We re-invent the wheel all the time. Why can't we learn from history?
There is an old Korean saying, "Put out the fire on your own foot first!"
Not a bad idea, is it?
The US Government has NO business policing boy and girl relations in any foreign country, outside their Base or Post. The military CAN put whole towns off limits to their personnel if they choose to do so. Nothing has EVER worked in that respect, except enforcing cleanliness and educating GI's in ways to prevent disease. Certain things can't be legislated out of existence. If you don't want to see what goes on across the tracks, don't go over there.

Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

Actually Nevada it is a county decision for prostitution. There are "ranches" from outside Reno and Carson City to out side Las Vegas. In the counties where there are large Cities there is no Legal Prostitution but in surrounding counties it is. It is very regulated much like the gaming industry is. I lived there from 2003-2005 and it has not changed except as the rural ones close down they do not usually reopen. It is a fact of life that Prostitution is the oldest profession at least it is regulated at the ranches. Just like everywhere else in the US and the rest of the world the illeagle is there also.

Bajama, I'm stationed at Kunsan and don't go to A-town accept to eat, I've never bought a juice girl and could careless if these girls hang-out with the GI's. If it makes both of their time here more enjoyable let them play touchy feely. Being stationed at Kunsan sucks and for the few who want a girls companionship so be it. The Wolf has done enough damage here and adding another thing like this would just be icing on the cake. Besides all that mind your own business.

Re: Human Trafficking, and the Wolf Looks the other way...

This topic has been discuss a lot here over the years.

My opinion is that these girls know 100% what they are getting into. If you do not believe that you are more naive than the girls you are talking about. Here is why.

These girls have been coming to Korea for a long time. Thousands have come and thousands have returned to their home country. Every "juicy girl" has a cell phone and access to phone cards. They all call back to their family and eventually go home. Do you honestly believe that the word has not gotten back to the Philippines? That girls have not heard that when you go to Korea you become a bar girl? Some girls may get tricked, but the majority know exactly what they were getting into and tell their sob story to get a few extra juices out of the caring GI. It is also a great way to make GIs get married to them.

Don't get me wrong, the way some of the bar owners treat these girls is wrong and I don't think these girls should be doing what they do. They way to solve this is NOT to blame the GIs. Blame the bar owners that think the only way to make money is to sell juices and prostitute girls. The best money makers outside of Osan are not the juicy bars. They are the bars that offer dart/pool clubs and have a sports bar feel.
