Vonage ban at Kunsan
Now that they are actually cutting off vonage does anyone know of a VOIP that will still work other than skype? And does anyone know when everyone's vonage will be cut off? I heard that some people have already had it cut off but not everyone. Thanks!

Re: Vonage ban at Kunsan
Where are you at? Aren't you in Seoul? They're only doing it to people who live on base and it looks like it's only on the Air Force bases right now.

Re: Vonage ban at Kunsan
Ahhh, I'll be living in Uijongbu. I technically haven't hooked it up yet because still waiting on my household goods shipment. However I did receive a voicemail through email from my sister yesterday so I know my service is working anyway LOL
The rep AT vonage seemed to urge that anyone going across seas to sign up, I guess the military and/or korea could be losing lots of money if everyone had vonage.

Re: Vonage ban at Kunsan
Eventually everyone will be cut off. They are going dorm by dorm. If you got here and had vonage before 20 Jun 07, you are grandfathered. You just take your orders and proof of your vonage account being active before 20 Jun to the internet company and they will turn it back on--happened to me.
Some people use yahoo for calling the states. The internet company is offering a voip service for 10.00 to 34.99 plus the modem rental of 10 bucks plus whatever internet service you buy--around another 30 to 50 bucks. If you sign-up in April, the phone is free. You get 6 15 min morale calls free each month, but having a phone in your room is much better. Some people get a cell phone and buy minutes as they need them--available from the same internet company--LG Dacom. Good Luck! |

Re: Vonage ban at Kunsan
I think I found a solution put a router between your internet connection and your vonage phone. I called vonage and they suggested that you all try this! Turn everything off, the turn on the internet, then turn on the router, then turn on your conage. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS!

Re: Vonage ban at Kunsan
I've heard that MagicJack is the better thing going. It's a little box that hooks up via USB to your computer, then hook the regular phone into the box and viola! $40 a year....can't complain there. I use Skype and have had no issues with it. Then again, I actually have a GE 2-n-1 Skype/regular cordless phone that I picked up at the BX almost a year ago.
www.magicjack.com and www.magicjacktv.com I have a coworker that has it and she is happy with it. |
