Hughes v. Norris

This will never hapen I know but I got to ask this anyway. Who would be the most dominate fighter, if it possible for both fighters to actually fight each other in their prime. Matt Hughes or Chuck (trainied in Songtan) Norris?

My money is on Chuck. My reason is this. When Chuck was in in his prime, he was by far the most dominate competitor in the world of martial arts, having won the recognized world championship 7 years in a row! Chuck also trained with Bruce Lee, Joe Lewis (whom he beat in the worlds), Judo Gene Lebell, and many many others. Chuck is also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Carlos Machado. And Chuck was whipping up on skilled martial artists back then, did all his own stunts in his films, so on an so forth.

Chuck Norris being a pure stand up fighter would get dominated by Matt Hughes in a MMA match. I don’t think Chuck studied much ground fighting as it wasn’t really around in the 70s and 80s. Also, it was popular to throw high kicks in his day, which is an easy way to be taken down by guys like Fedor and Matt Hughes.

Looks like FullBalst and I posted at the same time.

I didn't realize was a BJJ black belt. I still stand with my decision though as Hughes has beaten some of the best BJJ black Belts in the World in Gracie and Newton.

speaking of Chuck. All "Chuck Norris" jokes aside. I consider him to be the greatest martial artist to ever walk the earth! Now, this is coming from a bonified "Bruce Lee geek". I say this because of what Chuck has accomplished because of his martial arts career. He is probably the biggest supporter of the "Make a Wish" foundation, he runs his Kick-Start program which puts teachers in schools for disadvantaged children. His "Kick Drugs out of America" program was one of the biggest in the country of that sort. He donates millions each year to worthwhile charities, and many many other things that have changed the world we live in. That to me, is what the true essence of the martial arts is all about.

Of course, I still feel that Bruce Lee was the greatest innovator and most skilled martial artist ever. And who knows, maybe if Bruce Lee had lived, he would have done as much to contribute to the world Chuck has.

Well you know, Chuck is also responsible for the Gracies initial success in this country. He has known Helio since before anyone else knew who they were. Matt is tough, no doubt, but, he got whipped pretty hard by BJ Penn, and BJ's stand up game is....ok at best.

Good points. I saw BJ a few times in Hawaii and one time heading to Korea. He has gained some weight!

Full Blast, what do you think about Fedor? Anyone better than him today?

Mike

Oh Jeez, Fedor....man that's a tough one! I can't really think of anyone that matches up well with him to be honest. I think that the best all-around fighter was Frank Shamrock. Too bad he doesn't really fight anymore. I'm not sure of the weight classes, but I think that Rich Franklin is about the only person who would give Fedor a run for his money and take it to him.
