Great Idea! We can't tell where you are by your profile (No Location) , so If you are not at Walker, we may have to wait!
Welcome! Don't think we do have contacts there on Post. Guess it's Walker Army Garrison now! Camps are fewer now. They grow good apples down in the south near Taegu. Anyone out there? |

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
I am at Waegwan outside Camp Carroll about 45 minutes north. A nice country town.

You guys got to get together! Wish I could get down there, but I don't have an excuse!
Gangster- I knew you were near Walker, but was not sure of the distance. I guess you get over there to Taegu for the commissary? SS- convert some folks down there and introduce them to our forum! It would be a good thing! Keep us posted! Last edited by Mr. Joe : 06-14-2007 at 10:21 PM. |

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
We have a small commissary at Camp Caroll. Taegu AB (K-2) is a ROKAF base on the other side of Taegu from Camp Walker. You have to be on an roster to get on the base. There is a small group of US troops there. We have a free shuttle bus that runs back and forth to Camp Walker on the hour from 0700-2200 hours daily. There is some talk of changing the schedule do to budget restrictions.

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
An interesting thing about this part of Korea, the weather is different than in Seoul and Osan. Very seldom does it snow in the winter.

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
Where are the good places to go out in Daegu? The town seems like it doesn't really have a "US" area like in Dongduchon or Seoul or Songtan...

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
Glad to know you are there! You can be our Taegu eyes and ears for the Forum! In addition to Gangster, that is. He can fill you in. I haven't been down there for years, but you may be right. Not that lacking a G.I. part of town is bad. It certainly helps in "Forcing you" to learn Korean.
I'm personally convinced that learning to read is the most important thing to further the Korean Experience. (It is so nice to get on the right bus or subway on the first try!) The second most important is carefully selecting clean places to eat! There used to be a US presence at Taegu AB, and perhaps there are still English Speakers in that neighborhood. There was a large Presbyterian Hospital nearby at one time, and an American community. |

Re: Camp Walker (Daegu)
It is a large city. Lots of department stores. There is a Korean pro baseball team, the Samsung Lions. It is easy to get around as they have a subway system and a very good bus system. They are in the process of starting a commuter train that runs from Kimcheon all the way to Dondaegu Station. There is a small GI bar section outside Camp Henry, most of the bars are off limits to military though.
