College degrees for Military

For everyone in the military (Army) and you don't have your degree yet, I'm attaching a link that gives you the option to use your MOS and all your military carrer experience to obtain a AA or BA.

Of course you'll need to go to the ED center and sign up but that is the easy part...

http://www.soc.aascu.org/socad/ACD.html#MOSList

I'm also attaching another link for your AARTS transcript that "should" have everything you've done in the military from basic to current, school's that is.

http://aarts.army.mil/

I'm sure alot of Soldiers have no clue about the above link.

Just so you know, by doing 2 courses and all my military experience i'll be 1 class from an associates degree and 6 classes from a BA in aviation maintance.

Also, earmy-u is amazingly easy to use, sign up is easy and you join all courses on-line.

Ask questions here or PM for details or if you want to join....I can help you also.

Don't worry....If you go to that AARTS page, when you bring your transcript up it has college credits that "can be" converted into college credit.

This is what one of mine says;

Recommendations: IN THE LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY, 1 SEMESTER HOUR IN PRINCIPLES OF SUPERVISION AND 2 IN MILITARY SCIENCE.

No matter what you do, your military experience ='s college credits. Most colleges want you to take at least 2 classes with them before they will evaluate your military.

With earmy-u everything is free including the books.....and I still have my GI BILL to use after I get out.......................

What is a AA or BA ?
And, Is it the University degree or College degree ?
Last, I'd like to know about general a school career of American soldiers.
In my sentence, American soldiers are means GIs.
Could you tell me about that ?
I have heard that there are criminals in the U.S. Army.
Is it true ?

Re: College degrees for Military

AA is an Associate of Arts degree, which takes 2 years to earn. BA is an Bachelor of Arts degree and it takes 4 years to earn. After that is a Masters degree and then a Doctorate. The words university and college tend to be used interchangeably. For example, I tell people that I went to college but I actually graduated from the University of South Carolina. But a college is usually smaller than a university. You can get an AA or BA from a college or a university. Universities usually offer the advanced degrees. This program that is offered by the Army allows you to go to either a college or university.

Yes, the military does have criminals. They have to get a Moral Waiver before they can join and it's supposed to be for minor crimes.

Cool Re: College degrees for Military

(Say "FORMER" criminals! I hope.)
Koreans worry too much about the name of the university-believing that a
college is not the same. So, Koreans do not respect college degrees. They will hire a person based on the name of the University which they attended. Koreans mostly think that a University Degree is somehow different than a College Degree. The real difference actually the size of the campus. I guess if you pay to get through a University it makes you feel more prestigious. It is a wrong way to think.
Many small colleges have better educated students, due sometimes to the smaller size of the individual classes, where students have a chance to participate more and ask questions, thereby learning more!
A person can get lost in a large university, becoming a number, not a person, in a class of 100 students. Some universities hire less qualified foreign teachers, some who may be intelligent, yet are not able to pronounce English well enough for students to get a good understanding of a subject. I graduated from the University of Nebraska, but I learned best in smaller colleges in earlier years.

I don't want to say that we don't respect college degrees but we do this to to certain extent also. Ivy League schools are looked upon more favorably than a lot of other schools. I really wanted to go to a smaller college than USC but the tuition was 3-4 times what it costs at a state funded university. Oh, Shsong, that's another difference between a college and university. Most colleges are privately funded where universities are state funded.

Re: College degrees for Military

Is this new to the Army?

We in the USAF have had the Community College of the Air Force for sometime. Which I encourage my troops NOT to attend unless they have plans to stay for 20 or just don't care about a degree.

With the CCAF degree, most regional colleges/universities won't accept the credits and if they do they only accept a few. Your AA from the CCAF turns out to be a nice to have and in the AF a must for E-8 and I belive standard if you want Senior Officer rating on you EPR or to be stratified.

As far as criminals, when I went through the recruiter school the AF would not take anyone with a criminal background and if you have a criminal background you can almost forget about a job that requires TS/SCI.

I don't know about the Army, as bad as they need bodies I'm sure before long they will be combing the prisons...(that was sarcasm.)

To our Korean friend; it is not common to have people with criminal records in the military anymore and if so the crimes are small and petty...no murders or people escaping jail time anymore...and no more judges placing people in the military versus jail time.
