Dale;
I hope you did make the stripe so you can get a bigger room at Osan! As you may not know, I was not in long enough to make TSGT, before I got my degree and went to AF OTS. I was in the AF a total of 23 years. A degree program for enlisted is as old in the Army as the AF program. It just seems that the Army is so big, compared to the AF, and they are so concentrated on training enlisted infantry and artillery soldiers that they just do not, or did not have as many resources dedicated to turning those soldiers into officers. Maybe that is changing now, and their Warrant Officer program is booming. I don't know what education is required, but there is a special school. It appears to be a good opportunity for intelligent hard charging young men and women. My unsubstantiated opinion is that the Army ROTC programs provide a sufficient source for Reserve Officers with 4 year degrees, and that is where the Officer candidate emphasis is. One interesting thing I found out- As a civilian working for the Air Force, my command paid for most of my college courses;in the Army here in USFK they don't. So if you get out and are looking for a civil service job, ask first if they will help with your continuing education! |
