Help with Space A
Trust me, it's not that hard to confuse me. I have read, re-read, and read again countless sites on space-A travel and I can't make heads or tails out of it.
Can someone tell me if I can travel space-A? Please don't tell me to look at another site - I swear I can not figure it out!! Well, if the site verifies what you tell me then yes, I would love the reference. I will be command sponsored at Osan. Can I fly space-A from Osan to Japan? How frequently? Can I fly space-A from Osan to Europe? How frequently? Can I fly space-A from Osan to the States? Which states can I fly to? How frequently? I am so frustrated!!! LOL!! I am very appreciative of any help / answers you can offer. I hope I don't come across as snarky or anything, I'm not! I'm just confused! Last edited by Gingersmurf : 06-02-2008 at 02:17 PM. |

Re: Help with Space A
Wow, you haven't even arrived in country and are already looking for a way to get out. The rules and categories of Space A travel are a bit confusing. My suggestion would be to head down to the PAX terminal at Osan and personally speak with one of the AMC reps. They're the ones running the show and will give you the scoop on this issue. One thing to remember with Space A...you MAY get a flight out, but not a flight back. I had an Lt take his family back to the States Space A from Germany. All was going well until he tried to get back. They couldn't get a flight out of one of the busiest AMC ports; he ran out of leave, had to extend, pay for hotels, and hope something became available. In the end, he flew him and his family commercial air back to Germany. Point is, don't look at Space A as a reliable and frequent source of transportation. |

Re: Help with Space A
For me, it's not too much of an issue. I don't work, have no kids, and am not on a strict budget. I'm just interested in visiting friends on occasion without spending beaucoup bucks!

Re: Help with Space A
It is important that you have lots of time on you hands as there is no guarantee. I was doing it quite often for a while, but I am retired military. I met an active duty person who only spent 4 days of a 35 day leave back in the US as he spent the rest of the time in AMC terminals.

Re: Help with Space A
I just flew from Osan to the states space A and I had no problems(and it was awesome!). We had to have a letter from the commander saying we were ok to use it. It was a letter that said we could fly TO Korea but it was the form letter they used and it was no problem to get us out. We flew from Osan to Elmendorf then to Travis, and I had to show the letter in order to get out of Elmendorf.
You can fly to whichever state the plane is going to. For example the plane I was flying on from Osan was going on to Kansas the next day, and I could have gone there. They had plane is Elmendorf going to DC and Washington and Vegas, but I decided to go to California, but once you get to the states you can't go to another states location (OCONUS TO CONUS, CONUS to OCONUS ok CONUS to CONUS not ok) unless you have been manifested through. So say I am on a plane in Elmendorf and the plane is going to Travis and the SAME plane is going on to DC ,if you are manifested through you can go to DC as long as they don't change flight numbers. ANYWAY I don't even think I answered your question. I'm not sure how often you can fly. I know you don't want to be sent to another site, but go to JOHN D'S SPACE A FLIGHT site he's got a great FAQ section that I found really helpful. DIRK PEPPARD has a forum that you can ask your questions at and they seem to know a lot about the whole space a thing, so they may be able to be more help than us.
