Getting Command Sponsor
I have been at Osan for about 2 weeks now. I am just trying to figure out if there is anyway that I would be able to get my wife command sponsore even though I am already here. Any information I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: Getting Command Sponsor
I work for the 51st muns squardon here. There is a guy the same rank as me that got here a month earlier and had the option of CS and turned it down. So I don't know if that makes my possibilties of getting CS any better.

Re: Getting Command Sponsor
Chucksnee is correct. Air Force CS procedures are similar to the Army, but the way they prioritize things can be different, so see your unit First Sergeant or Commander and get the local answer.

Re: Getting Command Sponsor
I hate to tell you this, but I doubt very much its worth the trouble of even trying. When you signed your assignment RIP, you accepted an unaccompanied tour and by the time you get your request up through your chain and it hits AFPC, you're talking about 3 or 4 months. By that time, they'll say you're half way through your tour and it wouldn't be worth it. If you decide to go ahead with it, good luck. But, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Sorry.

Re: Getting Command Sponsor
It's like most things in the military...it's based on the needs of your service. If the Air Force has an E-6 jet engine repairmen (sorry - I don't know AF MOSs) command sponsored position and it's vacant - then you can apply and chances are you will be able to get it.
I don't know if this happens in the Air Force, but a problem with Army CS positions is that when someone decides not to do a 2-year assignment, the command will sometimes switch the command sponsorship to a position that wasn't originally a CS position, because a soldier in an NCS slot wants a command sponsorship. And everything is all well and good...until a year later when the person who originally turned down the CS rotates and the incoming person can't get the CS back. It gets even trickier when the CS is given to someone of a lower rank. So now you have a platoon sergeant who expected to get a CS, but can't, because it now belongs to an E-5 in his/her platoon. Every few years, a General in EUSA will put his foot down and say enough is enough - no more shifting of CS slots - if someone doesn't want it - just don't use it for that year so the incoming person a year later can get it. But they have been moved around and swapped back and forth so much that the system is pretty much hopelessly out of whack. Last edited by willy : 03-07-2008 at 09:16 PM. |
