Any DJ opportunities near Osan?
Just wanted to see if any of you DJed at any of the clubs off base. I've been doing a lot of closet DJ work, but I'd really like to start working at a club and wanted to see if any of you had experience with the local area. I've worked every other aspect of the bar scene, so now it's time to step up to what I really want to do.
One other question...are there any sources out there for vinyl, or should I bring my own. I'm bringing my turntables and Korg processor, so I'll have a few choice pieces of music just to play around with, but I'd love to shop for some new stuff while I'm out there. Thanks for the help! Eddie

It all depends on what you mix. I assume if you're using vinyl than it's either hip-hop or techno/break beats. From what I've seen though, most bars either use CD mixers (rarely) or just have a computer sitting around with a windows media player song list (95% of the bars).
It's funny actually. People here deem a good DJ by his selection of music and completely discard any programming skills. Long live vinyl!

There are some bars with DJs, but Logic is correct. Most bars have a computer that they play MP3s or hook them up to the big screens and play music videos.
Check out the bar reviews and you can see some of the DJs.

Ahhh man! That's no fun. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind putting together a good set on a computer and letting it run so I can spend some time checking out the eye candy, but there's nothing like rockin' a crowd with a live performance. Oh well...guess I'll just have to do some dorm parties. I spin mostly electronica of all types, but I'll do anything but country. Well...thanks for the info, and I'll see you guys out there!

Well... most electronica doesnt really exist in any of the bar's off-base. So that can either be a sign of failed results or a businuss opportunity. I just caught my beat match (with the occasional train) and was moving onto programming/scratching until cd mixers became popular. You might be surprised on what kind of audience you could draw... I say get close with some bar owners and give it a try!

You could try the Mystic, they have a DJ booth there, but I believe it is only hip hop. doesn't hurt to check. Also, the base clubs might have nights where you could do that.

Yeah...I imagine that I'll make my rounds around every bar in town...doing market research, or course ;-) I had a friend of mine that DJed the club on base a few years ago, so I might check that out just to get my feet wet. Guess I'll just miss out on some of the eye candy if I have to stay on base. Oh well...can't have everything!

Re: Any DJ opportunities near Osan?
K...this isn't totally on the subject, but are there any record shops near Osan or anywhere else on the peninsula? I'm going to bring a few records over, but I'd really like to get my hands on some local club DJ mixes...on vinyl.
Thanks! Joe

I heard it was illegal to be a DJ in a club off base if your receive payment, including free drinks.

Re: Any DJ opportunities near Osan?
It might be...from what I hear though, most of the clubs don't have DJs anyway. It's just computers with MP3s. I just want to pick up some local music. I'm bringing my stuff over so I can practice without having the wife on me about mowing the yard and playing with the kiddo. This is like a whole year of getting to concentrate on my hobby! That sounds horrible, I know, but I'm going to have to do something while I'm there to keep me from just drinking myself into stupidity :-)
