Camp Red Cloud - store with guitars in them. (A rant)
A few weeks ago, I was in this store up in CRC getting a package wrapped. Well, I noticed that they had these guitars for sale, so I went over and took a look. What I found was a bit dissappointing.
There were a couple of Cort guitars that looked alright. But what made my ass twitch was this lesser-known US made guitar (which will remain nameless, to protect the guilty). It was a super-jumbo 12 string guitar. Well, the action was quite high, the bridge was cracking and the strings seemed old and were "humidity worn". I was a little shocked that it was being sold for about $900US!! I wondered, how long has this guitar been kicking around here? It was a shame, because it was a solid-top and was probably well made. Unfortunately, I didn't have my tools with me, so opted not to perform surgery on it. ![]() In any event, the store really should take some time to put their step forward and sell the best guitars possible. BTW, while I'm talking about luthiers and guitar repairs, the best repair guys are probably Steve Kim MD CUSTOM GUITAR SHOP(Line #2 Hongik University Station, Exit #4~ make a right and cross the street, second floor). His English is pretty good. While in there, encourage him to take his wife away on vacation. (They need one!) The other is BIG CAT Guitar Shop at Line #6 SANGSUE ST. (NW exit - walk west toward Hapjeong St. a couple of blocks.) As the name implies, if you have cat allergies, avoid it like the plague! They have maybe 4 or 5 relatively friendly and furry cats! They act as the interpreters, as their English isn't very good. The owner's wife speaks a smidgeon of English and can usually get you what you need. Just my 2 cents. Thanks!
