How do you record?
I use a Korg SP500 keyboard and the "Omega Recording Studio". The Omega Recording Studio is a digital recorder that has superb quality if you concentrate on using good keyboard synths.
I'm still trying to see which type of mic to purchase.

The ultimate goal would be vocals. I've got a Audix OM2 right now, pretty crappy if you ask me.

I have a program called "Guitarport Rifftracker" you can record anything on it, however it is mainly for guitar. It is made by the folks at Line 6 which have excellent guitar processors for computers. It is the simplist and easiest recording software I have ever seen or used. Trust me, my attention span on stuff that is highly labor intensive on the computer, is pretty short, and my frustration level pretty high. This program will have you recording in less than an hour. Recording, mixing, layering, it's all there. They have a built in drum program too. Over all, you will need to sit and play with the program a bit to get all the nuances in, but if you can spend a good bit of time fooling around with it, you will have lots of fun!
