Nice article, mike!
Maybe we should also add a little part of practicing good OPSEC, too, though. We've got quite a few military personnel and we don't want too many people asking specifics, right? I'm not sure if this is a great idea or not, but should there be a penalty for non-posting members? I notice many other communities, forums, etc. have rules as if you do not post anything for some period of time, you get a warning. Then eventually your account is deactivated (or is that going on now?). |

I agree! I may even have an OPSEC pop-up that reminds each member the first time they log in each day. If you get a chance, write-up a good OPSEC paragraph in the team forum.
Mike

Hello everyone
I'm going to be the FNG at Osan. I'm really excited, I will be there 1 Mar. Before I get there I need the low down on some things that I can do for my first weekend in Korea.

I would take some time to get settled in... you will have plenty of time to do things at Osan that you will never tell your mother, hide from a future husband and unsuccessfully find ways to justify. jimmy |

Thanks for the advice. I just don't want to sit in my dorm room all weekend.

Jet Lag should take care of the first weekend. If not, your sponsor or a friend will fix you up with a tour of the base and shopping. You will learn to like the area! If you need the big city life, Seoul is waiting. Less than $2.00 on the subway to any destination in Seoul! See you there later on!

Seriously, your sponsor should hook you up. If your sponsor is a guy, find some girls in your unit right away and use them to show you downtown. If you haven't heard Korea has a major problem with sexual assaults and alcohol abuse. Make sure you go downtown or to the clubs with another lady and stay together all night. If you get drunk DO NOT let a guy take you home. Mike

When Mike, our glorious leader, talks about "Korea's' problem with sexual assaults, he means among soldiers and airmen. It is, unfortunately, the 'Military's" problem. Our fine young troops sometimes drink more than they should, and then have to be back on Base by midnight. Curfew turns some of the guys into lotharios and they can take advantage of the ready made convenience of the proximity to female quarters. The radio says, "There is at least one sexual assault every weekend". So it is something to watch out for. Please don't worry about Korean men doing that. You will be safer in Korea day and night than any where I know. You'll see.
PS: When he said, "Don't let a guy take you home"- he really meant- "Don't let a guy escort you to your quarters!". Mike is wonderful, but he has to learn how to phrase things so ladies won't misunderstand. He still lacks experience! He is still single... Last edited by Mr. Joe : 02-28-2006 at 06:09 PM. |

Thanks for keeping me honest Joe! That is correct. I meant us military guys you need to watch out for.
