lost asian
hi, everyone!
i'm diwatang langit, i've been here in korea for 5 months now and i wish i've known this forum earlier. it could have helped me to find a lot of useful information, instead of my trial and error method. being an asian myself, it's quite an experience going out downtown, because they expect me to know how to speak hanggumal (maybe because i kinda look like a korean national) so i rely on non verbals and the handy korean phasebooks. i've done some travelling, using variety of public transportation. i have my adventures and misadventures, but it's all good....it's a part of learning experience. i highly encourage everyone to explore korea since it's a nice place, it has a lot to offer. and if you need a wingman/battle buddy, i'm just an e-mail away (as long as it fits my schedule). |

Hello, from a longtimer in Korea, but a shorttimer on this site.
Where are you from? And what are you doing in Uijongbu? It has been a long time since I was there. That was back in the 1980's. It has probably grown up like the rest of the Korean cities/towns. Lots to do here. Enjoy your visit. If you need some info about where to visit, email back. I live in Pyeongtaek, about 1 1/2 hrs south of Seoul, and there are many historical sites to be seen, if thats what you like to do. |

ironically, to the 2 hikers
thank you for the warm welcome, koreahiker and hiker...
i am born and raised in the philippines.i joined the airforce when my family and i moved to california. since i have the "generic asian" features, most people mistaken me as chinese, japanese, korean, thai, vietnamese, cambodian, hawaiian, samoan, etc. before they can guess that i'm actually filipino. i guess, it's cool...i'd rather be mistaken as "female katusa/korean soldier" than of a "juicy girl" (lol). i am currently stationed at camp red cloud in uijeongbu. my superintendent from my previous base was actually in this installation long time ago as well, and as i send him some pictures; he also told me that a lot of things have changed. i am into sight-seeing and so far i've been to downtown uijeongbu, yangju, pocheon, dongducheon(camp casey), osan (ab)/songtan/ pyongtaek(camp humphreys), bukhansan national park, dmz, seoul tower, korean folk village, lotte world, olympic park, namsan park, itaewon, apgujeong, kunsan(ab)/gunsan (wolmyong park and eunpa park), jinhae/chinhae(naval station) and busan/pusan (song jung beach). i try to vary the locations and activities that i do. i have a list of places that i want to visit and i check it off once i've gone there. i definitely enjoy hiking but i usually can't find somebody to go with me. i would definitely appreciate more tips on where to go and how to get there (any mode of transportation - local/military/city/intercity bus, train/bullet train, subway, ferry, anything except taxi because i hate taxis....i'd rather walk forever than take taxi - it's too expensive!). i like the adventure of being lost but eventually finding my way to my destination because usually, i hit two to three places instead of one! |

Welcome diwatang_langit,
You have the most replies (and quickest) to date in this new member forum. I have a feeling it is because of your pic. Thanks for taking the time to post some info. I hope the site helps you during the rest of your stay. Maybe you can help me write and experience the "101 Things to do In Korea" project I am working on. I will be writing the best 101 things to do in Korea and then I plan on doing each one and filming my voyage around Korea. The Voyage won't be for some time though as I am still in Hawaii. If you have any inputs to the 101 things to do please post them! http://www.usfkforums.com/general-ko...o-in-korea.htm

<P>i feel flattered when you think that i get replies because of my picture. maybe i'm just photogenic. i have a comment from one of the studio photographers that i should be a model but i don't think i have what it takes to be one. besides, i don't want to be one because i think it's too "girly" for me. being in a career field dominated by males, sometimes, its hard for me to find my "feminine" side....i'm more of one of the guys now. when i joke around, i say that i'm mulan since we're both asian women serving the military, breaking the traditional role of women in the society that we grew up with (just a reminder, i didn't grew up in the states so don't be alarmed).</P>

tama ka, flip2pogi!
i've always used diwatang langit as my code name when i was in high school since it's a "classy" version of angel. alam mo naman kasi na marami sa ating salita ay hango sa Espanyol/Kastila kaya mas ginagamit ko ang "malalim" na Tagalog. Besides, airmen have wings, so it's just appropriate to call myself an "angel". |
