And you speak at least 2 languages. Wish I could.
I thought that I would let you know of a couple of great historical sites close by Pyeongtaek. Admiral Ee, Shun Shin is probably the greatest Korean hero. He is the one that fought the Japanese (1600's) almost 100 times, and won every battle he was the commander. His grave site is within about 20 minutes from here, between P-taek and OnYang. Then, on the outskirts of OnYang is a large, beautiful commerative garden for him. Also, there is one of his families homes (in the park). Within 30 minutes of P-taek. Then, around the corner from the commemorative garden is a museum. This is not one of the newer, classy, museums. It has an outside area, and then a 3 story building. It is crammed and cluttered with all kinds of exhibits that show Korean history from ancient times through the 19th century. I love the place. Ee ShunShin's grave is free, and the garden and museum are less than $5.oo. There might be tours from Osan Air Base that you could sign up for. Finally, the Port of Pyeongtaek opened within the last 3 years or so. There are charter boats that go out to many of the surrounding islands. And there are larger ships that go from Korea to China, if you get 4 or 5 days to do something. I think the cost of the China boat is a little over $100.00 Enjoy yourself, your stay here. And, get away from the GI towns around the military camps. The people are really people out away. |

Is it coincidence that Mike's avatar changed from an icon to his picture once a good looking girl pops onto the site? Hmmmmm.....
Just kidding! Welcome to the site and have a great time while you are out there. I'm heading to Osan in October and I can't wait to see everything. Enjoy the countryside and keep us posted about your adventures. Eddie

Not the reason I changed, but funny. I thought I needed a change from the "two girls" avatar. I will actually switch back to a Kim Chong-il pic soon. ![]()

I did not realize the avatar was actually your pic. Please pardon the chauvinistic response; however I would have to agree with the studio photographer. You would make it as a model. I am sure you probably have a difficult time in the male dominated work environment. I am not sure how it is today; however, supervisors in the past would place females in the office instead of allowing them to perform the job they were trained for. I am sure your experiences in Korea will really be of great importance to everyone, especially your peers. I believe we share the interest of getting out to see the sites wherever we go. I am sure there are many people that only experience the local ville. This hit home when I was riding the bus from Osan to Yongsan. There were 3 soldiers on the bus sitting in front of me. They were all excited about going home (USA) the next day. As we drove past the Marriott in Gangnam they seen some people going down to the Shin Se Gae underground mall. One asked the other where they were going. I sensed their curiosity was really piqued and explained to them there was a mall underground. I also told them of one of the largest bookstores I had even seen. It contains several American books also. They told me they were returning from Songtan. They heard it was the best place to shop in Korea. If you have not had a chance to experience the midnight shopping in Seoul and are interested let me know. I will give you the directions. Please post your adventures as soon as possible so others may benefit.

Re: lost asian
Hi Sweetie!
I know that most of our neighbors and friends back home also say that my sister and I look like Julia (especially when she started in Ang TV/Kaybol). Right now, I don't look like her as much, kasi mas matured na ang hitsura ko (mas madalas kasi akong nakasalamin) at saka I'm not the lady finesse that I used to be. Being in the military for 4 years now, I have to toughen up and perform the mission at all cost. |
