Hi..newbie here. I just joined, although I've been in Korea since Jan 04. Presently living in Dongduchon (Camp Casey) with hubby who is DOD civilian working at Casey. I am retired USAF (retired in 93). Now..my job title is "Domestic Goddess" hahaha! I'm really enjoying my stay over here but I do have alot of time on my hands so I keep myself busy with various things. I love the Korean culture and food (except for the spicey kimchee). I look forward to meeting you all. |

Welcome to the forum. Are you guys going to be staying in Korea for awhile? I like it here too, although I've been here for only 3 weeks. I notice it rains a lot lol. Just like back home in Seattle.

Re: Hi from Camp Casey!
So you never made it over here while you were active duty? Hey, the kimchee is one of the best parts! Welcome to the sight, feel free to start arguments on threads! lol. Seriously, these moderators do try to keep the BS to a minimum, but there are some heated tit for tats every now and then.

Re: Hi from Camp Casey!
Hello, and welcome to ROK, and Camp Crazy. My first trip there was in 1974....just a few months after the assassination of the Korean President's wife. Things were a bit testy. And then back in '77, and was called off of leave when the North Korean DMZ guards mistook several of our soldiers for trees, and did them a job with hatchets. (Really, we we had asked them to remove some branches from a tree that was blocking the view, and when they didn't, then we did, and they became really adjitated. We drew weapons, protective masks, and live rounds for that one, too.
Anyway, it is much more relaxed in TDC now, and I think you will enjoy it. Lots to do all over S. Korea. And being here with your hubby will help a bunch. Go on the tours. They are cheap, and they get you acquainted with the place. Then, get with friends, and really explore on your own, and find out about the subways, and the bus system. And you will have a blast. Finally, to the other newbie, who has only been here for a couple of weeks. This is definately NOT like Seattle, or Portland. This rainy season lasts through August, and it will be h-o-t. But expect a beautiful fall, that lazily changes into winter (usually not extreme, and not long). Then March, the weather begins to warm up again. Korea just has 5 seasons, instead of 4, with the wet weather (monsoon) stuck in the middle of summer. By the way, I'm now at Pyeongtaek, located between Cp. Humphreys and Osan AFB. My wife and I have our own business. That's how much I like it here. |

Re: Hi from Camp Casey!
My wife and I will be stationed at Casey. I'll be there in two weeks and my wife will join me in Sept. We are both active duty officers and are interested in living off post. I would definately appreciate any insights or advice you have on going through the process of getting approval for moving off post, finding an apartment, buying a car, getting a cell phone, etc.
Thanks in advance. Ari |
