Well, today was my first time finding this AWESOME forum and I just HAD to sign up!
My name is Ashleigh and I'm here at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Hubby is AF and he was JUST given an assignment to Osan for next Sept. and I was trying to find out everything I can about how I can get my butt out there with him! (I don't handle seperation well... lol)
Anyways- I will be stopping by frequently as the year goes by to get more and more info about OUR trip out there.

Yeah, I saw those pages when I first saw this site... that's actually what got me all gun-ho about this move.

It was actually kinda weird- the whole finding out about his assignment- that day- I had taken all 3 of my kids to the pool and I was talking to a woman that had JUST come back to the states and was there with her husband for a TDY... this was around 3pm that I talked to her- and she was telling me that she had gone over there even though it wasn't sponsered... (we knew that it was a HUGE possibility that he was going to be sent there) and so I started asking her questions...
Well, at 5pm I left the pool to go pick up my husband from work and he gets in the car and looks at me and says "I have some news" and I just knew it... KOREA. He tells me that he had JUST found out about 2 hours before but didn't want to tell me over the phone... so HE found out around... 3pm! Coincidence? I THINK NOT! And I just looked at him and said- "We're going with you." and I proceeded to tell him about the woman that I had met. SO now you're caught up to now... lol
We have 1 year to start planning and saving up money. (@ $3500 for plane tickets JUST to get there... - not counting tickets to come back!!)
So- yeah... the fun has BEGUN. lol But the good news is when this is all said and done- I will be able to say "this is what we did" and help other families STAY TOGETHER when they DON'T HAVE TO BE apart.

Glad your excited about coming over. It really is a good assignment, espically for the AirForce. It will be even better when the AF is under it's own command.

As for the tickets, get them as early as you can. If you have to put them on a CC then do that.

Here is what my sister-in-law done. She bought the ticket on her CC 5 months out for $1500 but she called back every 1-2 weeks. If the price was lower she asked to have that new lower price. Anyway you see where i'm going and she got her ticket down to $800 even, round trip.

Check on all the websites, and be sure to call them, becasue some web sites do not ask if you have children they just give you the adult price, but if you call them and tell them 3 of the tickets are children you'll get a different price.

My wife her and our son's ticket for just over $1200.

Well, we don't plan on getting round trip right now... I think we're just going to do one way for now and then worry about the return trip later- you NEVER know when things could possibly change... He was offered to do that program that gives you $300 more a month and allows you to stay for more than a year, it would be more like 2...- but at the loss of getting a follow-on... I don't think so!
We actually plan on buying the tickets with $$ from tax time- and that will give us a nice window of time to find something cheap. The cheaper the better!!! lol I doubt we'll be able to ALL fly together- but we're going to ATTEMPT to plan it so that we go out on the same flight as my husband and then just get his tickets changed over to one close to ours... that or just stick one of the kids with HIM! HAHAHAHAHA!
That and I think it would be wise to bring tranquilizers with me... hmmmmm. Think the drs on base would prescribe some of that???
BTW- I'm scared to DEATH of flying. I don't handle it well.. and I sure in hell can't be the one taking the tranqs... lol I can just imagine it- I'm passed out as my children are running up and down the isles screaming... omg.... scary.
I'm sure if I ask for assistance, they'd be willing to help... they're always so nice on airplanes... except the ones that hate their job. They don't count.

You know- I've also been thinking about it- My daughter will be 2 the first week of August of next year- if I bought the tickets BEFORE that date- maybe she could get on for FREE. She was a preemie, so she's really small for her age... I think it MIGHT work!
She would just have to sit in my lap... she's a cuddler- I don't think she'll mind. lol
