Heading to Korea Mar-07
I'm currently stationed at Ft Myer, right outside Washington D.C. I'm the Old Guard. We perform ceremonies in and around Washington, mostly in Arlington National Cemetery. I just reclassed to 46R (Broadcast Journalist) in April, and I'll be heading to AIT in Nov. I got an RFO saying that I'll be working for AFN-Korea, and I report in March. I'm here to get info on being stationed in Korea.

Welcome to the site! AFN, huh? The actual new AFN commander is a semi-active member on this site. Let us know if you have any questions. Mike

Re: Heading to Korea Mar-07
I'm still in my "due diligence" phase now, lurking in the shadows reading as many posts as I can. It looks like most of my many questions are already answered here in the forums. I went to my overseas brief this morning, and I've been picking the brains of coworkers who've spent time in Korea. Its amazing to hear the different perspectives/experiences of the guys who've been. Polar opposite opinions on the place, depending on who you ask. I'll keep searching and see what I can find about AFN here in the forums...

Semi-active! Hey, some days I'm lucky to be that :)
Anyway, I'm the AFN Commander, LTC Mike Lawhorn. Nice to meet you! You can email me michael.lawhorn@afn.korea.army.mil to ensure we're tracking your name and arrival date and get you a sponsorship packet. Looking forward to meeting you in person. Sincerely, LTC Lawhorn |

Re: Heading to Korea Mar-07
Glad to see you in the forums, sir. I've sent my address info to the S-1 NCOIC over there, and I'm watching the mail for the packet. I also checked out the videos on the USFK site. Looked at the AFN-Korea site too, and I'm looking forward to joining the crew!

Re: Heading to Korea Mar-07
Well, we're looking forward to having you. The CSM and I signed our welcome letters today and you should get them shortly.
Of course, it's certainly a statement about our wired world that you've gotten a quicker response from the bulletin boards vice the "normal" way :) LTC Lawhorn |

Re: Heading to Korea Mar-07
The last 6months went by fast! Well, I arrived in Korea this week, with all my luggage and only a bit of jetlag. Throw out all the tour books...You've gotta see this place firsthand to really know what it's like! I'm happy to finally be here, and I look forward to the next 2 years. A whole-hearted thanks to this site for all the great info. Reading the posts answered a lot of my questions and relieved some of the anxiety. I'll keep checking back periodically, to add my 2 cents and retain my spot as arcade champion. :-)
