Re: English Teaching Opportunities
Welcome to the site!
I know the English teaching has been hit hard over the past few years. Also, I am not sure if active duty can work for Koreans. I would check with your commander. Mike

Re: English Teaching Opportunities
Check with the legal office here in Korea for the latest interpretation. You can also read all about teaching here under the U.S. Embassy, Korea site. I know you can teach for free, or make a deal to learn Korean in exchange for teaching English. My understanding is anyone here on a "Type 3" visa cannot legally work for money in a capacity other than what their visa is intended for. My understanding is that applies to active duty and family members.
Yes, people do teach for money. Are they all legal, no. Do they pay tax to the Korean government on their profit, as teachers do under a different type visa?? I don't ask... ![]() |

Re: English Teaching Opportunities
The base legal office would be the best place for answers.
They changed the rules a few years ago to allow family members to teach English. To do so they had to apply, and receive a work visa. I don't thin k that active duty can legally be emplyed off post. The only legal jobs available for active duty are on base through MWR etc. With tht said, I have know many active duty personnel, since 1995, that have taught English for profit. The guys in the dorm at Yongsan would sign their studetns into the base and hold English classes in the Dragon Hill Lodge or at Burger King. Guess nobody really cared. |

Re: English Teaching Opportunities
Anyone who is in the ROK under sofa status can not hold a paying job in the ROK economy. (unless it is under the table of course).
