Coming to Songtan
Hi all! I am a civilian contractor for the Air Force. I will be moving to Songtan the end of November. I have been scouring these forums for information and have found a lot of good stuff. I am coming to the ROK from Okinawa. I speak a little Japanese and hopefully I will be able to pick up some Hangul. I have a couple of questions if anybody has time to answer. I have looked through the classifieds for cars, and searched the forums, but I still havent got the info i was looking for. About how much will I need to spend to get a clean , reliable car, and how much will inspection cost? Also are non-Korean cars easy to purchase? (toyota, nissan, honda). I would assume finding housing would be similar to Japan. Just locate a housing agency and they will take care of everything for you. Thanks for any info.

Re: Coming to Songtan
Base safety inspection is $20. Depending on how long you going to be here, I would say spending about $1000 to $1500 will get you a CLEAN reliable car for at least a year. A lot of people posted the For Sale sign onthe car or at the BX and in the base newspaper. I would say those are the best sources for buying car from an American personnel.

Re: Coming to Songtan
I bought a car at Yongsan from an american (DoD civilian) PCSing for $350. It didn't look like much, but it ran great, had 4 doors, got me to and from work (which living in Itaewon on Hyatt hill was a *****, especially during the summer when it was hot and humid), and down to Osan a few times. I sold it when I left for $350 as well. So, except for gas, oil changes, and insurance (very cheap), it was basically free transpo. Good luck and welcome!
