Hi!
Hello everyone. I've been reading a lot of threads and I noticed how helpful and patient everyone is with each other. I've never seen a mature forum like this on the Internet. :)
As for myself, I was an Air Force brat and I actually lived in the Songtan area for practically all my life until I left for the U.S. to go to college. I actually graduated from Osan American High School. I went back several times during college and so I can vividly recall the strip and the juicy girls...lol. I've been working in the U.S. since I graduated from college and my plans for the future is to become a civilian contractor working out in Korea (either Osan or Seoul). My little brother already works in Osan as a contractor and I'm envying his tax-free salary. Right now, I'm in the process for my top secret clearance and as soon as that goes through, I'll be looking for jobs out there. Just wanted to join and ask questions that I might have. I did notice a forum specifically for Military personel, but are there any plans for having one for Contractors? |

Re: Hi!
Welcome lakbum,
Tell us about your times you had here in Korea. Not really a contractor fourm, but hey Mike may read this and decide to add one? Mainly though, if it is specific question even for a contractor they have been put in the thread for that specific area under Military (osan, camp humphreys and so on). Generally all questions get answered one way or another, their is alot of experience on here. We do have some contractors on here, retired military, current military and of course the wonderfull WIFES that contribute to this fourm. So I'm sure you questions will be answered one way or another. Welcome to the site. Chuck

Re: Hi!
Thanks for the welcome.
I have some crazy stories to tell about my adventures outside the gate, of which I vaguely remember, but the one that I'll share right now is quite an embarrassing one. After arriving to Korea for my winter break, I went out with some friends to enjoy the nightlife. We hopped around to our usual spots like Golden Gate (not my favorite, but sometimes okay), Bounce, Piano Bar, and Star Gate. I got a bit drunk and I think being tired from my long plane trip was one of the major reasons. I don't recall but a friend of mine put me in a taxi to go home (at the time, I was staying at my mom's). Well, when I finally arrived at my place, I looked through my pockets and I couldn't find any money. I was like, "oh damn...," and I could tell the taxi driver was slightly pissed. I would be too if I was in his shoes. Luckily, being Korean, I told him that my mom has a store around here and that she'd pay the bill. I told him that I need to make the call from my house and he didn't believe me so he actually followed me all the way inside. So, I made the call and the taxi driver left to go collect from my mom. I basically just passed out on the floor right in front of entrance. An hour later, I wake up with my mom kicking me in the head saying how embarassed she was that she had to pay for my taxi fees. It wasn't a good first night in Korea. Unfortunately, the taxi cab driver probably got himself a nice Calibri lighter (costed me $100) since I lost it in the cab when I was searching my pockets for money. I was too drunk to notice that it slipped out. Btw, is Lazy Daze still around? I used to go there all the time when I worked part-time over the breaks just to chill with the owner. She's a really nice lady. She used to give me a free shot for every shot I bought myself, lol. |

Re: Hi!
Welcome Lakbum! You know, this IS the only forum I know of that is conducted in such a friendly way, and even when we disagree, we do it in a mature way, hopefully! We all have something of value to contribute, I believe, and the whole idea is to assist and entertain! I am certainly pround and humble to be a part of it.
I am retired AF, and now a civilian working in Seoul. Any question you ask will be seen by folks from all areas in the "Lounge". Put it in an area where you have an interest, such as Seoul or Osan for local expertise. Contractors, School Teachers and folks from many countries are reading this as we speak. |
