well how do i start this not to good with words let me just say that i am a 38 year old woman who joined the army in August i have a 21 year old daughter and a 17 year old son and a 1 year old granddaughter. yes i know that i started late in life but when i wanted to come in the first time they would let u in if u where a single mother which i was at the time . now that my kids are grown i wanted to do something for myself and this was the only dream i had that i had not fullfilled. Well let me tell you the first day of bct i was wondering if i took some kind of drug and didnt know about it it was hard work i lost 52 pounds in 9 weeks any way Nov 3 i got out of hell and was sent to AIT were i am still untill Jan 24th then i will be going to Korea. AIT is something else the young kids they just wont do right to save there life DS said dont go off post and get drunk and what did they do go off post and got drunk and then came back and threw up on the CQ desk
And now we are locked down till we gradurate i like being able to leave the post overnite i get a room and sleep all day. Sometimes i cry from the pure frustration and i think to myself Lord please dont let this be what the Army is really like. I hope that there is someone out there that can tell me that life in Korea or at any pds is better than this. I owe alot to the DS that trained me and most important I owe it to myself to do the best job i can ARMY PRIDE& 40 ROUNDSyes I am at Ft. Jackson great base privates |

Re: hi
Mrs. Wyatt, it really depends on what you call better?
Yes it gets better because you are not in basic or AIT. You have more freedom here to a point.......E-6 and below cannot have a car (unless you have that specific job the requires you to have a car). As for the YOUNG kids getting drunk over here in Korea it is a daily and nightly basis. Just this weekend they had an entire platoon of Soldiers downtown doing courtesy patrol until curfew. Welcome to the site and enjoy, remember when you get here there is MUCH more to Korea than Soju and beer and you'll be fine over here. BTW what is your MOS?

Re: hi
Hey Mrs. Wyatt. Don't worry. No matter how awful it was, you have survived, girl! Living your dream has some lumps, but Korea is a well kept secret. I guarantee you will find enjoyable things to do here. The young folks do need a lot of help, but your experience as a MOM is so rewarding that you will feel needed and loved as soon as you get settled. Lost all that weight! Wow! The worst is over. Believe me. I'm the godfather of this forum, and am probably the oldest. Trust me that this will be fun. Cold as heck until March, but still fun! Remember, we are all volunteers! This is my eighth year in Korea, by choice! See you soon.
PS; We lived in Sumter 20 years. My Korean sister-in-law has a wings and rice place near Fort Jackson. Last edited by Mr. Joe : 12-28-2006 at 02:49 PM. |

Re: hi
Life is always better when you get out of training. You almost through the tough part. Just hang in there. Leaving your family behind will be tough. But shouldn't be much of a problem for you, since your children are older and can take care of themselves. Whichever place you go, it is what you make of it. So when you come to Korea, enjoy it as much as you can. Sure you can't have a car, but that's why they have buses, taxis, and trains lol.
What's 44c? I am not in the Army, sorry. |

Re: hi
I Googled it. It says all Finance Specialties are now lumped under this number. I know she can handle money. And they usually have an air conditioned office, too. Piece of cake. Shopping every Saturday.
