Where's good place?
Hello! I'm new to this forum thing, but I thought this would be a great way to meet people before I get to Korea. My husband and I will be arriving in a few short weeks. I've never been to Osan. Any great places to eat, check out, etc.?

Re: Where's good place?
If by Osan, you mean Osan Air Base (which is really in the town of Songtan), you'll find restaurants and great shopping right outside of the main gate.
The Seoul subway system also links to Songtan these days. Central Seoul is only about an hour and-a-half ride away. You'll be able to pick-up Seoul guide books at the airport, tourist information centers, or check out the book section at the PX when you arrive on Base. |

I highly recommend the CRAB (Chinese Restrurant above Burger King). Awesome food, good prices.

Re: Where's good place?
Welcome!
There are plenty of places to eat and shop at within 2 minutes of the main gate. I recommend going to Suwon and Seoul on the weekends though. Mike

Re: Where's good place?
There are literaly more places to visit and eat while you are here than you could possibly try. CRAB (Chinese Restaurant Above Burger King) is good as is Sawadee and the Thai Restaurant. But those are the normal places that lots of people go to for regular fare. If in Songtan you also need to get off of the beaten path and find the little (totally wrong spelling here) poo-day-chee-gay house. Talk about good eats.
My general rule of thumb is that if I'm paying more than 10,000 won for a meal (around 10) then I'm paying way too much money. You definitely have to try the Sam-Il Bulgogi house as well. The pork belly is good as is the pork rib meat (heck it's all good if you can make it into a little lettuce taco)--you'll understand if you've eaten it before. But what I recommend is making a day of it. Hop on the train and pick a place to go and then just get off and wander around. Find the places that the Americans don't go and the people don't speak English. Take your Korean phrase book along with you and just go enjoy some good Korean food and the spectacular hospitality. I went to Cheonan one day and went into what looked like a bulgogi house, but it wasn't. The lady that owned the place looked at my phrase book for the food I wanted and then literally took me down the block to a restaurant that had what I wanted. Where the heck else can you get that kind of service. Just be overly kind to the people here and they will bend over backwards to make you happy. And remember....more than 10 dollars and you are paying WAY too much for your meal. Welcome! ![]() |

Re: Where's good place?
Sawatdee is a Thai restaurant.. There is another Thai restaurant called Chang Pwuck.. (Left out front gate) I went there on my last tdy and they had a really good buffet upstairs. Not your typical Chineese style buffet.. They put out food as needed so it was not cold..

Dameeun hit it on the head again! This is a man after my own heart. He knows how to enjoy Korea! Just go out and do it. SSNAPIER is another one. He takes the phrase book and gets on any bus in Seoul; goes until he sees a likely spot and gets off.
Remember the Military recommends the buddy system, though. It is a good idea in any situation. And take a camera! Get out there and explore. And I agree, prices over 10,000 won are for tourists and rich business men! |
