Heading to Korea soon..any fishing kayaking
Hello there,
I am heading to Korea in a few months and am wondering if there is any thing going on with a few of my hobbies...kayaking, fishing, archery, bicycling and just being out of doors. If anybody is into these kinds of activities please drop me a line. I am trying to figure out what to pack and what to leave behind. I already know better than to take my kayaks, but what about the fishing or archery gear? Also, I plan on living off base, I have a large dog and would like to find a house. Does anybody out there rent? How much can I expect to spend? Drop me a line here or at talfo38152@yahoo.com Regards, Tony |

Re: Heading to Korea soon..any fishing kayaking
Hey, that is some great news. Unfortunatly I am unable to see the link because of network filters...I am in Iraq right now. But I will remember to look it that link when I get home.
One more question, I am going to want to rent a home off base and have a large dog. Although the city is right there I understand that homes with yards are not too far away from the base. About how much do houses rent for out there? Tony |

Welcome to the site, as mr. joe said most of what you want to do is here. Most people do not even know what can be done in Korea. I just found out 3 weeks ago that Osan has a skeet shooting range, they provide EVERYTHING. I've been here for 2 years...... To help answer your questions we need to know what your rank is, depending on that will dertimine what your max is for rent, then you can adjust from there. Expect to pay between $1200 - $1700 a month, not including utilities. As for your dog, depending on how you ship him will determine on how much it will cost to have him shipped over here. Expect to pay $1000 or more if he is as large as you say. My 14 lb cat cost just over $300 and that was on a cargo plane. Yards are far and few over here, places to walk are close. Enjoy the site Chuck

Re: Heading to Korea soon..any fishing kayaking
Oh really, thay have a shooting range. So does that mean I can bring my shotguns with me, or is that not allowed? Is there any hunting as well?
Also, are there any fishermen/fisherwomen on this site? I would love to know what you have learned about doing those activities. I have a pretty decent fresh/salt water gear assortment, just not sure if it is worth the bother of bringing that stuff along. i do plan to bring my scuba stuff just becasue I noted that somebody is doing classes out there. If that is the case I am sure that i will be doing that at least! I am surprised that homes with yards are few and far between. Is that true for places withing commuting distance of Osan as well? I am an O-3 and am willing to travel up to an hour to get to the base. Tony |

Re: Heading to Korea soon..any fishing kayaking
Tony,
Yes yards are hard to find.....can you find a yard yes....you cannot judge an american yard to a korean yard. You maybe able to bring your shotgun/rifle over here, i'm not sure what paperwork you would need. mr. joe would/may know that. There is a bass tournment/fishing club, i'll try to find you a link for that. Sorry but you cannot judge what an hour commute in the states and what a hour commute in Korea can is. It has taken me less than 1 hr to go from Camp Humphreys to Seoul...around 50 miles.....It has also taken me close to 5 hrs to do the same trip. Osan and Seoul is closer.

Re: Heading to Korea soon..any fishing kayaking
Hello,
Sorry it took me so long to get back you you all. I am an O-3, single and other than the pro-gear, car, clothing and sporting gear don't plan to travel with much. I am glad to know there are places that I can rent that my dog can live with as well. My goal in Korea is to spend only as much as I need to and to save cash for other things...bills. As mentioned earlier I am really into the outdoors scene. It would make more sence to live close to base and do a roommate thing. Or, perish the though, I am considering giving my dog to the folks who are watching him now...I am in Iraq. But I don't want to do that. When I return from this deployment to my home and am better able to reseach the internet I won't be so worried about the details. Thanks for all your input though and if anybody else wants to tell me what they know I will be happy to read it. Regards, Tony |
