heading to osan in feb
Hello everyone, well I recently was notified that I'll be moving to Osan in Feb. I have a couple questions right off the bat.
1.) What sort of Internet connection do they have in the dorms? DSL? Cable? Is it Jens? and is it any good at all? 2.) Do you get Family Sep while you are there? Monthly? Or do you get it at the end of the tour like you do when TDY? 3.) If I put my Vehicle into storage here and bring my rental contract to Korea will they go ahead and pay me for the whole year? Or do I have to pay The whole entire year storage fee first? 4.) How is the dorms currently at Osan? I've had a few people tell me they built new ones? SSgt's get thier own room? Bathroom? 5.) Is it possible for someone living onbase to get like a Scooter, moped, or something? Or is it going to be on foot the whole year? 6.) I Imagine theres a lot of folks playing Guitar in the dorms? I've been playing for about 12 years myself. Looking forward to my tour in Korea and getting to know all of you here. Thanks for your Inputs. Atlantis |

You will have to pay your entire year for your car in storage and get your money back when you return to the states.
You will recieve your family seperation on a monthly basis $250 a month. To get a Moped or ANYTHING with a motor (over 49cc) you must have permission to from you post commander. Even a motorized skate board needs a licence. As for everthing else, i cannot answer. Welcome to the board and enjoy your time while in Korea!

I have yet to arrive, but I do have a few answers for you. Go to www.osanbundled.com. They have the cable, telephone, and internet service for the base. I would recommend that you look into a company like vonage or packet8.net before you arrive and get service set up before you come. For about 78 bucks a month you can have all of the cable channels, dsl, and then hook your voip box up for about 23 bucks a month and be able to call home for "free."

Cool Thanks for the Info. I currently don't have Vonage but Have been considering it. So it's best for me to go ahead and get vonage here in the states? Is it as simple as just plugging it in korea once I get there if it's already active? I didn't know VOIP like Vonage would still be free from over sea's. If thats true thats awesome. In the dorms is the Internet DSL off of the land phone line? meaning I'll have to pay for the land phone line as well? or is it Cable?
Thanks. |

Welcome Atlantis and dameeun! Glad to see you guys posting. The great thing about Korea is that all Internet is broadband. It is the most broadband country in the world.
Atlantis, I have seen people make good friends on this board and then meet for a beer. ![]()

Well...looks like we have a ton of the same questions, and this is a great place to get the answers. I'll be there in a few months, so I'll pass along the recent skinny when I get there. I'll also check out all the good places to go before you get there and have a full detailed report waiting.
Oh yeah...WELCOME TO THE SITE!
