Re: New Members please read!

Hi all. I'm headed across the water to Korea in Feb. Not much luck with the whole sponsor thing so if anyone can help me out with my questions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I am (supposedly) going to be assigned to 2-2Avn at The Hump. Anybody there?

I'm sorry but you will not get a sponsor. COL Morris is trying to fix it but unless you are an officer, just wing it. If you are enlisted/WO1/2nd LT, expect to stay at Camp Stanley for about 7-15 working days as that is where we inprocess now.

I'm in 3-2 AVN.

Welcome and ask more question.

Re: New Members please read!

Thanks, I am currently in the middle of reclassing because of my last trip to the 'box and not only am I headed over there, but now I have to learn a whole new job. What can I expect as far as inprocessing?

And my orders say The Hump and 2-2AVN but I know that there is like 1 Co. at K-16. What do you think my odds are to end up there?

Any idea on the possibility of Command Sponsorship? I am even thinking about doing AIP, does that have an impact of CS?

What about barracks and housing?

And last, at least for today, what furniture/household items would be good for me to have sent over? I know that I live a very spartan existence when I am away from my family, but I don't want to have to do without.

I appreciate all your help

Re: New Members please read!

You must be a UH-60 guy? The Company at K-16 is now here.

It is weird that you have direct orders to Camp Humphreys? Either way when you get to Youngsan you will go to Stanley for a few days (7-10 working days)and then ship out to the Hump.

CS is a very touchy subject here in 2CAB, unless you are in a position that warrants a CS position it will be hard to come by....It is supossed to get better but....

What you should bring depends on your rank? Will you be living downtown? in the barracks or in the new Senior/Officer building?

Re: New Members please read!

Not even close.....for 10 years I have been an Infantry guy. Had a mortar blow out my eardrums and now I am about to be a supply guy. I have heard that usually you can forget about what your orders say, but according to what the people at SMS said I am going 2CAB and Humphreys.

I know it may change, that is why I was just wondering. I am supposing that I will be in the barracks being an E-6. I heard about the new ones that just opened, but knowing my luck I will be in the oldest ones available.

Re: New Members please read!

Ahhh got ya.

2 CAB has 4 or 5 BN. Most are here at the Hump now. 1 is still at K-16 but it is a ATC unit ( I forgot about that unit).

There is a rumor going around that the E-6's maybe able to move off post.......??? But you'll be without a car.

The barracks are O.K. they are 2 rooms with a common area for cooking and share a bathroom.

The new barracks are for 602nd, which falls under 2CAB. Everyone else has the older barracks.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask or PM me.

Re: New Members please read!

Howdy, another FNG heading to Osan in July. I was there back in 00-01, but I've heard a ton has changed. This forum rocks, and I appreciate all the great advice folks have already posted up.
