Re: First Post

Welcome! I did CRC in 1975, with the 604th DASS (Air Force). My second time working with the Army. They still had restrooms labeled "Officers" and another for "Men". I had thought that went out in 1959. Learned about oom rice and yakimish. We drove to Seoul to the Commissary. What? had a car at CRC? Short story. I was stationed at Osan for two weeks before being sent up to CRC. During that time, and anticipating the future with my wife and 3 year old at CRC, I quickly bought a used Toyota and licensed it at Osan. So, I was the only one at CRC with a car, except the Army Sgt Major and the PX Manager. I quickly became friends with the HQ 2nd Division Sgt Major, and a pheasant hunting buddy. No one ever said anything about my car. Gas was 17 cents at the motor pool! A nice assignment for an AF guy. You may remember the AF family with a black Toyota!

Joe! NONO! NOT THE DUCK SQUAD!

Gawd.. do I remember the countless days of my 2 yrs 1 month and 17 days of seeing and hearing those Marching DUCKS coming down 79er Drive past the flag pole! LOL

The only american that I can remember at CRC was a retired guy that had a red and white dodge duelly who occasionally came on post - I mostly remember seeing him driving either through down town or over one of the dirt roads near the back gate...

Wait.. General Hollingsworth had that almost brand new light green Ford staff car...

It was funny one day, I was down at the Commisary in Seoul, his driver was there picking something up for the General and he gave me a ride back to Red Cloud. When we came through the gate at CRC the driver threw on the red lights in the grill and both the ROC MP's jumped to attention and saluted - then one of them recognized me in the car! ROFLOL

I caught hell from those 2 for the next 3 months!

I did stop by CRC one more time in 1980 - everyone who worked on post remembered me and the on post Taxi's always gave me free rides when ever I used them - they refused to take my money.

I was astonished to see the changes around Uijongbu in the short time I was gone - there were quite a few of the rice paddies out side of the gate to the left that I used to walk through going and coming from my hooch that had been emptied and houses built, and so many places with "Western Style" bathrooms! What the heck was wrong with the old 7 x 11 inch rectangular hole in the floor bathrooms? LOL

Well ok.. so they weren't all that great during the summer and when the "honey trucks" came to clean them, you knew immediately that one was around somewhere with in a 3 block area......
