Hello Everyone
I would just like to introduce myself. My name is Evan and I'm from Austin, Texas. I recently graduated from college and have been looking for a teaching position in public education for about 6 months. Unfortunately, my education is not in areas that are considered "high need" by the state. I'm certified to teach French and English. Due to these circumstances and the fact that I love to travel, I have considered teaching abroad. I was told by a friend of a friend that Korea is one of the better paying places to teach. They said you can make a decent American salary in a place where the cost of living is much lower than pretty much anywhere in the US. So I am looking into Korea. In fact, I just applied for a job a few minutes ago. I would be very interested to hear from anyone (but especially Americans) who have taught in Korea to get their take on the whole experience. I am going to go explore the other threads now. Thanks in advance and I am happy to have found this forum!

Re: Hello Everyone
I have an interview with English Apple, a recruiting firm for teachers in Korea. Does anyone have any experience with this group?

EHickam! Welcome to the forums! Since no one in teaching has yet answered you, I will give it a shot. It was in the 70's when I taught in Korea. It was part time for me, as I was with the military.
WARNING-Some schools are not 100% honest with teachers, and you need to be very careful what you sign. Research first. Government sponsored schools will be the best place to begin to be sure of an honest contract. a good starter site; www.eslcafe.com (covers other countries, also.) see also www.teachkoreanz.com/terms/immigrat.htm My friend has taught over 2 years, and he is very satisfied at the English Village site here; http://english-village.gg.go.kr/eng/about/paju.jsp see also his blog: xanga.com/alpope23 He is incommunicado at the moment, I guess he is on vacation back home. Another friend, a forum member, has a family member teaching in Korea. He may have some advice for you when he reads this.
