Martial arts classes at Osan

Can anyone tell me the martial arts taught on Osan? The first time I was there in 91 to 92, I studied Do Hap Sool at the tent beside the base gym. Is there any martial arts taught off base close to the base? It helped me pass my year there. I will be arriving at Osan in June for my second time. I appreciate any info you can give.

Doug

Funny you should ask! There is a mixed martial arts class there and I was involved in it when I first arrived at Osan. I know there is a Karate class and two other martial arts taught at the gym. There is also a Maui Thai class just outside the gate and a Tai Kwan Do class near Hotel Capital.

Thanks for the Info

Mike, Thanks for the info. Once I get there and get my first few 12+ hour shifts in (which will be my first few days there), I will jump right in to one of those classes. I have heard the dorms have DSL and cable. I can't believe it. Last time I was there, no one had internet and we only got AFRTS, AFN, CNN, MTV Asia, and a few Korean channels. I still plan on doing what I did my first time there and taking as many MWR tours as possible when I don't have weekend duty. Ah, the good old days of having to push the MWR van on rainy days in muddy parking lots just to get it started. The won was about 780 won to the dollar then. I heard Osan has changed a lot from forum and asking around.

Hey Guys! Yes, we get together and do a free Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class every tuesday and thursday at the gym, starting at 2000. Myself and another guy named Robert usually teach the class now. We are both Blue Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Robert is under Relson Gracie, and I am under Carlos Machado, Raphael Lovato Jr, and Team Paragon. I am going to get a Jeet Kune Do class started on the weekends as well. I am fully certified in Jeet Kune Do, and have been doing the martial arts for the last 25 years! Come on in anytime!

Welcome FullBlastJKD!

I have no problem creating a sub-forum for you guys in the Osan Forum. Then you can post messages and post pics, videos, etc. It will also be a great recruitment tool. Let me know what you think.

Mike

Hey Mike, you rock bro! Yeah, that would be awesome! I suck at computer stuff, so you might have to help me with pics and vids, but I plan to take lots of them! Thanks!

Thanks Full Blast JKD

I hope you guys will still be there in June. That is when I get there. I have been wanting to learn BJJJ for a long time, most of my experience is kung fu and a little JKD. I will stop by once I get there. I would be very interested in the JKD classes as well. Thanks for the post.

Doug, I will most certainly still be here bro! You are more than welcome to come train with us. By that time, I will just be an assistant in the class as we will be getting a Purple Belt in next month! I am very excited about that! But, I will still have my JKD classes on weekends, or in-between BJJ class! Drop me a line at fullblastjkd@inbox.com if you have any questions. Thanks!

I just wanted to make mention, that as of now, I am available to teach Jeet Kune Do classes. I posted info on this topic over in the martial arts club forum, but I will lay it down here too.

Since I want to have as little as possible to do with my training program going hand in hand with the base gym, I will teach Jeet Kune Do in a private or semi-private setting. We will find a nice place, especially since the weather has warmed up now and there are places where we can train away from the gym that might be more convenient for all involved. Also, my schedule doesn't lend itself to me being available on a regular basis, therefore, it might be easier to just schedule a time and go from there. I normally teach up to two hours...sometimes longer depending on what you want. I feel that if I can teach away from the gym, I will be able to dedicate more time to the student and not with dealing with walk ins, on lookers, gunslingers, etc! LOL

I do charge for my classes, however I am very flexible about it. So, if anyone is interested, drop me a line at fullblastjkd@inbox.com and let's get started ASAP! Thanks!

Bryan
