Re: Good or bad places to live

Unless policies have changed, one thing to keep in mind is that anyplace you find to live around SongTan has to be approved by the base housing office. It's not usually hard to get approved though because most of the landlords are more than familiar with the standards that are required.

Thanks Turk. You've been a big help on this. I'll be there in a couple of weeks, so if you need anything, just holler.

Re: Good or bad places to live

Hill 180 is haunted. I have a friend that lives over by that hill and she hears weird things. Just search online about it too.

Re: Good or bad places to live

Hmmmm, I never heard that one before, a haunted hill. Many good men died there and I suppose you could make a case for a haunting but trust me, you'll hear a lot more weird things at night if you live closer to the main street outside the base where the clubs are at.

Re: Good or bad places to live

The man at Korea Realty (Alex) speaks fairly decent English and is a great help. He basically drove me around to every single apartment that I was willing to consider--spent nearly 7 hours chauffeuring me around over a period of 3 days, until I finally found what I wanted. He then did all the negotiating for me, got the utilities hooked up and even came over to explain all the actual ins and outs of stuff inside the house. Excellent service--all you need to do is give him your prerequisites and he'll find what's available.

Re: Good or bad places to live

There is two places that I think are okay. Sun City and Park Place. Park Place has small bedrooms but have two floors in one house. Sun City is a duplex, and have large living rooms. A disadvantage of these houses are bugs though.

You could also live in Dong-Bu or Life apartments, if you head out the main gate and take a right, then go up the hill as you turn left again, then go left once you get off of the hill, then just follow the curve till you come to a turn off that looks kind of like a K, follow the upper-right hinge, and turn, then you'll keep following the road, and in front of a 7-11 will be Life Apartments. Alot of Americans in the military live here as well.

If you keep heading straight, past the 4-way you will come to another set of apartments on your left and right. I suggest the right set of apartments. If you take a right and then another going down a hill, then you'll end up in Dong-bu.

Disadvantages of this area is that it gets rather loud, since there are alot of dependents and korean children living in the area. It can also get loud due to the fact that they are by a couple bars, but aside from the gross throwing up sounds, you could rather like it.

Re: Good or bad places to live

Should I expect the "Mike" discount?

Re: Good or bad places to live

If you walk around the Songton area you can see "apartments for rent" posted on several shopping windows. To get the best bang for buck value I would suggest checking all the stores. I've got a fully furnished 2 bedroom with a large bath, and two large patios. My monthly rent is $400.00. Be weary though.... each and every one of the realtors will try to pressure you into buying on the spot. They also usually shoot down attempts to bargain the price by saying "This one use to be $650.00!! Now 500! Already discount! You buy! Its good!"
