BBQ restrictions?
Are there any propane grill restrictions in the apartments around Osan? One apartment I lived at in Virginia has some fire code restrictions. I'd hate to ship it over and then not be able to use it.
Thanks, Brad |

Re: BBQ restrictions?
Well...obviously, you can't ship the propane tank over there, and that might be a bit of a pain to get a new one. I'll have to check into it when I get there next month and I'll let you know. I'm from Texas, so there's no freakin' way I'm going to make it a year without BBQ!

Sell your tank now at the Garage sale.- bring the BBQ. Don't know of any restrictions in Korea. If you live on Post or Base the rules may vary!

Re: BBQ restrictions?
A word of caution. Gas stoves that use bottled natural gas must be modified to use "city gas" and vice versa. Also, everyone should consider installing a carbon monoxide detector in their home. I am speaking from experience of what can happen if you don't.

Re: BBQ restrictions?
Good words, Jim! Iv'e never seen bottled Natural Gas, but heard of it. Here in Korea we are talking Propane. I used to be a unit safety officer here, and built a carbon monoxide detector to check member's homes. The military makes sure apartments rented to members have smoke detectors. It is a great idea to have Carbon Monoxide Detectors also! Even at $35, they are definitely something to have in a rented home!

Re: BBQ restrictions?
I made a mistake - I meant Propane (King of the Hill type). In 98, I purchased a gas stove at the Osan furniture store. My old apartment used Bottled propane and apparently the stoves sold on base are/were designed for "city gas". I really don't know the major difference but,
I had to have the jets changed in order to use the stove. May be different now but I would ask the question if I either shipped a gas appliance or purchased one in Korea. Recently, I lived in a new 68 pyong apartment in Seoul. To our suprise a silent killer also lived in the apartment with us. For about two months we had chronic exposure to CO resulting in serious medical problems. Invest in a CO detector NOW!! if you care for your and/or your families health. |
