Questions about Osan AB

Hello Everyone,

I will be arriving at Osan AB for a second tour 8 Feb 07. My first time in 99 I had a roommate, so I don't remember what the prices were for telephone service and cable. I'm an NCO now, so I will have my own room. My question for any of the NCO members at Osan is, what are the prices for phone, DSL, and cable service? Are the NCO dorms still located by the Challenger Club, are they new or renovated?

Thanks in advance for your time and responses.

Jonessy

Re: Questions about Osan AB

Home Phone is about $35 a month. DSL has just dropped to $45 a month. Cable is about $20 or so. AFN provides about 12 or 14 free channels if you don't want to pay for the other channels. I think I got a total package for about $110. I am not an NCO, but I think the dorm are still located around that area.
I'd recommend getting a cell phone off-base and use that instead of having a home phone. Or just get the DSL and use VoIP phone. It is a lot cheaper.

I agree totally about the cell phone. If you're home, your cell is there. If you're not home, your cell is with you. That way you only need one number for people to contact you and you only have one bill. VOIP (vonage, etc.) is the way to go to call back home.

Re: Questions about Osan AB

Thanks for the replies. I've never heard of skype, but I had planned on getting vonage before I leave. I'm a 3A0 (Iformation Manger), but I don't know where I will be working as of yet. I haven't received a sponsor and I have known about my assignment since Aug 06. Are the cell phones prepaid or do you have to enter into a contract?

Re: Questions about Osan AB

For offbase phone, you can get prepaid cell phone or one with contract. Most people will buy a cheap used phone and use the prepaid card. I have a phone with a 6 months contract. For $50, I get 250 local minutes and unlimited call back to the US. But I did have to pay about $200 for my phone though.

If you haven't received a sponsor yet, contact your local Airman and Family Readiness Center and tell them. They should be able to get you a sponsor set up in a day or two.

Re: Questions about Osan AB

So if I'm living in the NCO dorms am I going to have to pay for a phone line (35) and DSL (75) meaning 80 bucks a month for just internet?

Re: Questions about Osan AB

The DSL is only $50 a month. The phone is about $35. If you get both as a package, it is about $80. You don't need to have phone service for internet access. It is high speed internet.
