Questions about KAIP

We are considering taking the 300 a month bonus to stay two years. So far we like Osan and are quite comfortable in the nitch we have carved out for ourselves. I do have a question though, hopefully someone can help.

Since we had a follow-on, we didn't get some of our PCS entitlements. If we take the KAIP, that cancels my follow-on. I should get these entitlements back again, right? We have all of our household goods in storage in AZ that we pay for out of pocket, it would be great to get reimbursed for that. (we are here NCS if that makes a difference)

Thanks
Brad

I don't think you get entitlements back....I'm in the same situation, I still have to pay for my storage and i'm not getting that money back. $75 x 12 for 3 years ='s $$$ GONE out of my pocket!

Re: Questions about KAIP

I came here non command sponsored from Hawaii. My stuff is in storage and I brought my wife here. I haven't paid for storage.... I hope I don't have to pay for storage or I'm going to owe someone about 4 months of backpay if they still have my stuff.

I hear ya. I just wish the morons would get on it! We submitted the paper work and it has been approved but it has been sitting since DEC 6!!!!!! I had better be getting the back pay for this Anyway I'd like to have someone pay for my storage costs too, I can think of some things I'd rather be spending that money on.

Anyone know what other entitlements you get with KAIP. My hubby, as usual, has been fuzzy on the details. He said something about DLA and what have you.

Re: Questions about KAIP

Hey short....there are things that we get, when we AIP but I have to research before I put them on here. They will be GOOD as long as I can find them in the JFTR.

The friend I've talked to said AIP is the same as extending (according to the JFTR).

Re: Questions about KAIP

My thinking is that KAIP isn't the issue here, it has to do with the follow-on assignment consideration. I had to give up certain PCS entitlements in order to have early assignment consideration. I remember reading somewhere that I could not be denied those entitlements, if I ever asked to use them I would get them and loose my follow-on. Since I'm going to loose my follow-on anyway, shouldn't I ask for those entitlements again?

I think this is very AF specific, does the army do home-basing and follow-ons?

Re: Questions about KAIP

I think the military will pick up the bill for your storage cost. As for you getting reimbursed for what you spent already I don't think that will happen. But it never hurts to ask, you should call TMO and find out. Are they going to back pay you KIAP or do you get it from this point on?

I came here under KIAP and I have stuff in storage, my wife is also here NCS. The gov is paying for our storage, we also got lucky and didn't get charged for bringing over 1700lbs which is way over my 900lbs limit.

Re: Questions about KAIP

KAIP = KOREA AVOID IRAQ PROGRAM ... Not sure about the storage issue but I'd bet to say Korea with your wife is much better then Iraq by yourself.

Nice, I'd probably agree with you except for the fact that my husband has served two tours in Iraq, the last one ending right before we came here. He was ther 179 days and they shoved him out of the country so he'd still have to come here. Upon applying for an extention on his RNLTD his commander told him "well you shouldn't have gone to Iraq in the first place since you knew you were coming here" But you're right we'd much rather be here together than him gone, again.

Re: Questions about KAIP

I was one of the first folks to take the KAIP back in 2004. I lost my follow on to Langley... in my opinion at that time... no big loss...

However the Assignment system lost me so I didn't get to make a choice in where I was going after Korea and got stuck with an Intra Command Assignment (was in an ACC Unit assigned to Osan) so I went to an ACC Base... Ellsworth... talk about getting shafted... no seriously...

I kept all my entitlements (storage of unaccompanied goods, was actually able to ship more from Korea - almost full JTFR allowances, etc)

What I consider the SUCK about KAIP was it was taxed at 28% as "an incentive pay" ok I can see it, since it is an Incentive pay... but they didn't tell me that in the briefing...

I'm trying to get back to Osan again... why?? because its Not South Dakota.

So maybe I'll see some of you long timers in about 6 more months.
