Re: TMO expert? Anyone? Anyone?

Just tried to access the JFTR on-line from home and couldn't. Anyone know if it's restricted?

Re: TMO expert? Anyone? Anyone?

I had trouble pulling up the links also, but a google search of "jftr" brought up the same site without any problems.

Background: TSgt on unaccompanied one-year tour at Osan. Brought "500 pounds" (actually closer to double that but they didn't separate pro-gear when they packed it even though I told them what was and wasn't pro-gear) to a dorm room. Got approved to live off-base and moved self to an apartment in town. Received DLA and MIHA because I moved out of the dorm less than 60 days after arriving on base. Wife and three kids here non-command-sponsored. Rest of household goods in storage by last base in California, paying out of pocket so as to not lose follow-on orders to Germany. Car with family in New Jersey.

Question: What are my rights in handling my trip to my next base with respect to co-ordinating the TMO shipment out of California?

I was told that because I have consecutive overseas tours, the Air Force will pay to fly me to my home of record (New Jersey) between the assignments. Would they plan my trip so I can have enough layover in California to supervise the TMO shipment from my storage unit? If not, what are my options? Can I purchase the ticket myself and get reimbursed for the amount they would have paid? Where is my family authorized to fly from? Where am I allowed to ship my car from?

With all due respect, I'm looking for straight answers and not "This is what happened to us..." or "My best friend's cousin's dog's groomer's sister's brother-in-law said..." References to appropriate regs would be especially appreciated.

Thanks.
Sorry it has taken me some time to get back to you on this. Believe it or not, this is a pretty common question(s). I am going to break it up so I cover everything...

Layover in California: Normally, you are allow a set amount of "preceed time." Since you have to "collect" your dependents in California (though they are with you NCS). But since you are doing a Consecutive Overseas Tour (COT) AFI-24-101 will apply to you along with the PACAF supplement. You must take your COT leave enroute to USAFE. The thing you can do is take the free leave option. The AF has to get you from PACAF to USAFE anyways, so the USAF is actually making out in the bargain. Prior to leaving Osan, talk with the TMO HHG and get a "mail out" application done so you can get your HHGs in California shipped to Germany. Since you are going to Germany, you are entitled to full JFTR weight entitlement shipping. Anything you don't want to go to Germany, you can place in nontemporary storage at gov't expense. You also will get an Unaccompanied baggage shipment for your dependents from California to Germany.

Another angle on the COT leave is you can have TMO fly you to Seattle and you make your way to Baltimore, MD and file for reimbursement on your travel voucher.

You are entitled to ship your car from California (your last base) or any VPS (Vehicle Processing Center) in the US. Here is the DoD guide for shipping vehicles: http://www.sddc.army.mil/sddc/Conten...//dbcn8808.pdf
The vehicle standards for Germany just changed two weeks ago.
If you have an aftermarket exhaust that emits more than 91dB, than you can't pass inspection.
If your tires extent past the fenders viewed from above, you will not pass inspection.
You can't play your car stereo and be hear 10 feet from the car.

Hope this answered your questions. This is straight from the JFTR, Chapter 3 and AFI 24-101, Passenger Travel.

Re: TMO expert? Anyone? Anyone?

I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post this question in but I'm going to give it a try. Before we came to Korea we put our stuff into storage, it was packed by and paid for by us. My question is when we set up our appointment with transportation to move our stuff from State A to State B will they make us unpack our storage unit so they can repack it? We're going from one very northern state to the state just below it, so in January I can assure you I won't be a happy camper standing out in below freezing weather, ankle deep in snow to unpack something so they can repack it Hope someone can help!

Re: TMO expert? Anyone? Anyone?

No, the movers will come to your storage unit and do all of that. You won't have to do a thing other than supervise. I asked my husband this same question and that is what he found out.

Re: TMO expert? Anyone? Anyone?

In the Tender of Service (the contract between the DoD and the carrier industry), it states that as long as the carrier or their agents do not have to bend to get into the room, than they have to pack it. This mainly covers attics and really small attic rooms.

This Tender of Service, which is actually contained in the Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR) or the DoD 4500.9R Vol IV, Appendix B, covers all uniformed services. So if it is good for the Air Force, it is good for the Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.

Even though the boxes are packed by you, the packers may open them up, and repack anything that they deem necessary. This is due to the fact that they are liable for the packing and if something breaks, then they are liable to pay claims.
