Re: Housing Amenities

Thanks Chuck =) I've been poring over the NCS thread for hours now and am only about halfway through...lots of info there! Do you know if Air Force will pack, move, and store our leftover stuff here? I'm hearing we may lose the follow on but we aren't really that concerned about that.

Re: Housing Amenities

Can't help you their....seems our Army rules and AF rules seem to differ on that part. They did it for me but some AF people say they will not do that?

Re: Housing Amenities

It's been depending on who I ask, on base and off! It's difficult getting a straight answer on some of these things. I assume regulations change alot, many people don't know what's current, and that there's a certain amount of discouragement from going NCS from certain camps. My eyeballs are about to pop out of my head, but I can't...stop...reading!!!!!

Re: Housing Amenities

If you ask the Air Force to pack and store your stuff, you most likely will lose your follow on assignment. That is why we packed and stored our own stuff while we are over here. If you dont' care about your follow-on, then go ahead and ask them to do it.

Re: Housing Amenities

A board member (thank you!!!) forwarded me a website that included the following information:

"For many of you, it has been some time since you lived in a dormitory and for others, this may be your first long-term experience in dormitory living. While most of your basic living needs are met because all units are completely furnished, past wing members have identified some items you may want to consider bringing with you to minimize initial expenses.

Vacuum cleaner
Small area rugs (for vanity, shower, latrine areas)
Television/VCR/Stereo/Radio
Dishes (pots/pans/plates/cups/glasses/silverware)
Microwave Oven (Officer only)
Coffee Maker
Mattress Pad
Bedding (Pillows, Blankets, Sheets)
Iron Board and Iron"

Can this list of stuff be packed and shipped as Professional Gear?

Re: Housing Amenities

We are not bringing the car. I don't believe we are authorized to have it shipped or to drive (USAF E-6), although we are entitled to have it stored here. Although that is a magnificent idea if possible!

Cool Re: Housing Amenities

I was allowed to put "car things" in the car; like sunshields,a set of wrenches and tools, bulbs, fan belt, etc. You are required to have reflective triangles (2) here. You get a box that you can inventory and seal, about 2x2x2. A blanket and pillow was included. Common sense rules. Generally no liquids. Some things get stolen from cars. Do not have more than 2 or 3 gallons of gas in your tank. You will have to pay to have it removed! Call the port to be sure before you go.

I do not recommend a car. Since gas went up, and since driving in Korea frustrates most people no end, parking is difficult at best, and since buses, taxis and subways are so cheap, it just isn't practical! There are only two times I enjoy the car, and that is driving from the commissary home, ( Some folks stand in line outside the commissary for an hour waiting for a taxi on weekends), and I like driving to work and out to lunch. It is nice to have, but not necessary.
I can't understand why you can't get good info from your present base or post about shipping to Korea! Ask a supervisor, not the one or two striper at the front desk! So many of us, including myself, love to give advice, but things change, and you are well advised to first ask your people there where the shipping begins! (I know, it may not work, so we are still here!)
