Re: Liberty Fest 4th of July Celebration
For those who I got to see at Libertyfest..
It was wonderful seeing everyone, and sharing the fun with y'all! :) It was an okay evening, though I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with the entertainment aspect of the evening. One would think that if Yongsan could garner a Chris Cagle concert, Osan services could at least contract and get one of the USO travelling entertainment smaller named bands to play as a mainliner.. I could be totally wrong here, but it just seemed to me that the Korean technipop/classical band that was the "Headlining" group for the evening's entertainment, while very talented, just wasn't really the most well-suited to the tastes of the crowd present. Was I the only one who got that impression?? *hugs* Dee :) |

Re: Liberty Fest 4th of July Celebration
I thought that they were good, but you're right, that was the wrong type of entertainment for the occasion. I also wasn't too pleased with the song selections that they played during the fireworks show. I did like the fireworks though and that was really the only reason we went. Did anyone else have a problem with the shuttle bus that was supposed to be making rounds every 15 minutes? After 30 minutes, we caught a cab with another couple that was also waiting. They were there for 50 minutes.

I felt a little bad for them after the fireworks, when the announcer was very heavily pushing the fact that the band was coming back for a 2nd set, and *everyone* was clearing out. I realize that probably the 2nd set was just filler entertainment to give those who were hanging around waiting for the crowd to clear something to do,and to encourage a few others maybe to wait so that there wasn't such a huge mad dash toward the gates to do so, but I'm not so sure the performers were aware of that, and might have been discouraged by everyone leaving before they played. I understand *exactly* what you mean about the music played during the fireworks as well, there were a couple of pieces that I felt were more.. umm..shall we say political, than patriotic, and other pieces that were just as lovely would have been better in their place? The fireworks themselves were very good, though some of the lower ones were lost behind a building that shadowed them from most in the viewing area we were in. My son did ask if we thought something was wrong with the fireworks, since the music was going on after they stopped (he's used to the fireworks back home that are choreographed to the music, and usually have music to signal the finale, instead of just stopping in the middle of a song).. and I had to answer that I just wasn't sure. As far as the shuttle buses, we lucked out, we came in to the base at around 7ish and caught the bus at the commissary right away, after only a few moments of waiting. On the way out ,however, there seemed to be such a crowd waiting for the buses, we just said forget it, walked over to Checkertails, had a soda, and waited, in anticipation of getting a cab from the BX home. We finished our sodas, walked back over to the BX,and some of the folks who had been waiting there since *before* we'd gone in were still waiting.. and we were inside a good 30-40 minutes. After seeing that, we said "forget it" and just hoofed it home. It was overall, a very pleasant evening, but there were some aspects such as the entertainment/music,and the logistics of transportation that I think services could have done *much* better in implementing. Re: Liberty Fest 4th of July Celebration
I have to agree I didn't care for the performance at the end. Earlier in the day there were traditional korean drummers, a taekwondo, and break dancing performances. Those were awesome! As far as humphrey's...I was very disappointed w/the transportation when we got back to post. There was only one post bus running. I thought with everyone out they might make an exception. So our family and a couple others were stuck standing in the aisle..with our husbands holding our toddlers...on the drunk bus. Also, I guess some soldiers were throwing rocks at the cab drivers so the cab drivers decided they were done for the evening. That's how we ended up on the drunk bus to begin with. So other than being disappointed w/transpo here on Humphreys...we were delighted w/Osan's entertainment:)
