Cool Re: second job

Guess you are coming over? Well, jobs depend on your qualifications and your status. If you are military, paying jobs off base are slim to none, as your status as military or DOD Civilian generally prevents you from working in a job that would require payment of taxes to the Korean Government. Carry-out at the Commissary is generally reserved for dependents or Koreans. We would need to know more about your status and qualifications to give you a good answer. In my personal experience, getting additional college work is the best thing to do with spare time. Welcome!

So, if you have some another job, you can't teach Englsih.
Now, Our gov't is searching about a foreigner English teacher's actual condition.

Re: second job

No. I suggested he ATTEND college classes himself, NOT teach!

US Military personnel CAN have a second job, as long as it does not interfere with his Military job: but over here, it would have to be on base, and not outside on the Korean economy.

Re: second job

Getting a job here is difficult. Something like 9 out of 10 jobs on base have to go to Koreans. I don't know if it's the same at Osan but it seems like the only jobs available are somehow related to children. Either teaching or sub teaching, working at the Child Development Center, watching kids at the chapel, or some sort of youth sports coach.

Shsong, I know that there are 2 colleges that offer classes here on base. The Army also has programs set up where hundreds of colleges offer online classes to soldiers. There are many soldiers who take advantage of this. My husband has taken 9 classes in the year that he has been here.

Re: second job

Why do you think that most Americans dislike to study?

Well, there is so much I could do with this statement.

First I could ask if you was being sarcastic, or maybe English is not your first language. Maybe ask if you see anything wrong with you statement. Then ask if you studied yourself.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just found it funny.

"Dislike to study"

Cool Re: second job

Our Good Friend Mr. Song has very few American acquaintances, and his opinions may come from those friends, or his reading, but he is learning much English mainly from our forum! I hope we can meet him before he goes down South to Gwangju to his new job. Good Luck in Gwangju!

I will say Americans generally love to study. Not all, that's true. Those who love to study will find a way. As in Korea, College or University study is expensive, and becoming more so every year. I find military people understand that education means you will earn more money! The military will pay most of your cost of a college degree! It is a great opportunity, and nearly every military person in Korea has the opportunity here to get some evening classes. We are very fortunate in that. Most work for my Degrees were done while I was in the Military.

Thanks a lot !
I didn't know that before. I have known that you just spend your spare time with Southeast Asia's girls at the bar.
I'm wrong.
Btw, I get better information such like NGC(National Geographic Channel) and Discovery Channel than my American friend.
These documentary channels are very good TV program.
A few days ago, I saw again about hurricane Kartrina.
So, that channel is showing them too detail. So, I like them.
I am learning about America through these TV program.
