DLM vs. Command Sponsorship

Heading back to Osan, 3rd time. But, this is the first time since I've been married. I know I can get a DLM (wife is Korean), but does anybody know the chances of getting a command-sponsored billet? I'm an USAF E-7 going to the 303rd. Any advise? Thanks.

Re: DLM vs. Command Sponsorship

I'm getting info from my hubby. But first I need to know what your AFSC is.

CS positions are attached to manpower positions; you have to be placed in a manpower position that is on the command sponsored position list. He has some idea of what is available but the unit has to be contacted to be sure.

Lemme know your AFSC and I will have more info for you, hopefully.

Re: DLM vs. Command Sponsorship

I'm going tothe 303rd and I'm a 3C071. I know that most of the command sponsor billets are for 1N positions, but was wondering if it was possible. Thanks so much for your help.

Re: DLM vs. Command Sponsorship

Mr Smurf says he doesn't think that there are any CS positions for the 3C0, that there weren't any when he was working with that program.

However, he will check as soon as he can for you. It may be a couple weeks or so because he is off base taking a course right now, but as soon as he can, I will let you know.

Re: DLM vs. Command Sponsorship

DLM is "Designated Location Move." It allows foreign-born spouses to be relocated to their country of origin when the sponsor has an assignment to a dependent restricted area. In the case of Korean spouses, it allows them to accompany their sponsor, at government expense, to Korea. The only catch is that they are "quasi" command sponsored in that it allows concurent travel and OHA is at "with dependent" rate, but medical and dental are on a space available basis. Also, the sponsor agrees to a two-year tour without short tour credit. If you're married to a Korean, this is the best way to get back to Korea, unless you can get one of the few command-sponsored billets.
