I am getting mixed information... We are accepting orders to Osan for short tour credit. I have heard that if you go choose the 2 year CS tour that it no longer gives you short tour credit. I am waiting for assignments to respond to this question, I was just wondering if anyone knew.
Thanks, Randy |

Re: Is 2yr CS Accompanied still a short tour?
I know the answer, but I can't give you reg that I found it in, because I forgot the reference.
A short tour is 12-15 months long in length. That short tour counts as a remote. If you stay longer then 15 months, you will not get credit for the short tour. Double check with your AFPC functional manager, but I believe this is correct. |

Re: Is 2yr CS Accompanied still a short tour?
I just found out from my functional mangager that it does count as a short tour, the only difference is that I don't get preference for my follow on. But thanks for the info.

Re: Is 2yr CS Accompanied still a short tour?
To clarify what I meant, a 2yr CS accompanied is a short tour, but you won't get credit for a remote tour unless you are unaccompanied for 12-15 months.
So if you only want a short tour, then 2yr CS accompanied is the way to go. If you want credit for a remote, and still have the upper-hand in getting your Follow-on, then the 1yr unaccompanied is the way for you. |

Re: Is 2yr CS Accompanied still a short tour?
People always asked this question in Turkey and in Iceland too.
A short tour is a remote. Those locations offer short tour credit even though you can bring your family. I'm sure it's the same for Osan. There really isn't any difference between a short tour and remote tour. Congratulations on being able to bring your family. |

Re: Is 2yr CS Accompanied still a short tour?
If you are command sponsored, it will count as a short tour. I just got back from Moron, Spain. I could have gone alone for 15 months, or accompanied for 24 months. I chose accompanied 24 months and got another short tour credit. Osan works the same way. See AFI 36-2110 Table 3.4 #2.
