Sat & Sun Air Show
Osan hosts Air Power Day 2007
Osan Air Base hosts Air Power Day 2007 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7. 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs 9/21/2007 - OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The 51st Fighter Wing will host its annual Air Power Day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7 here. The theme for this year's event is "Heritage to Horizons," as the U.S. Air Force celebrates its 60th anniversary. All DOD cardholders, military, civilian and their families, as well as Republic of Korea military members, are welcome to attend this event. Non-DOD cardholders are able to attend by invitation only. The event features aircraft displays from the Republic of Korea and the United States inventory, as well as displays of the U.S. Army Patriot Missile System and various ROK Army Air Defense Artillery Systems. Aerial demonstrations include Combat Search and Rescue featuring A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, F-16 Fighting Falcons and an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, as well as the F/A-18F Super Hornet demonstration team. The following items cannot be brought on base: pets, skates or skate boards, bicycles, glass containers, non-factory sealed factory containers, alcohol, weapons, backpacks or large purses, or coolers. The general public will enter through the Doolittle Gate only. Due to limited parking on and off-base, driving personally-owned vehicles is highly discouraged. Military buses from Yongsan and surrounding military installations will run as normally scheduled. Shuttle buses at the Songtan train station will run to and from the base throughout both days of the event. MORE INFO : go to www.osan.af.mil. |

Re: Sat & Sun Air Show
So who is going?
I'll be there both days, I'll be at the CH-47D talking about it.

Re: Sat & Sun Air Show
"Voluntold" is my all-time favorite military expression!
The kids and I will be there, although Tom has decided not to go since the e-mail went around saying he'd have to be in uniform. What a great way to get military members to stay away from the air show! Who wants to get all dolled up on a day off?! Kara |

Re: Sat & Sun Air Show
We'll probably go on Sunday because the kiddo has a soccer game Saturday. Will it be at the same place as Liberty Fest?

Re: Sat & Sun Air Show
Chuck...
Apparently , one of the chiefs here at Osan decided that it would be "good", for whatever reason for the AD military here to wear their uniforms to the air show, and made it a mandatory requirement to wear them. The news was sent around in an email apparently, and briefed yesterday. As Kara said, the only effect I'm seeing of it is that more and more guys are saying they won't attend if they have to attend in uniform. Personally, I think it's a bad call, as was the call of some shops to demand 100% volunteering or weekend duty. Can we say "Way too many cooks with their hands in the pot"? Richard was able to talk to his chief and get a waiver/permission to wear something different. We had previously committed to attend the airshow with our JV Awana kids. Legalities demand that we have two leaders with the kids at all times, and one of our other leaders was unable to make it because he was also voluntold he had to be there, so if Richard hadn't been given permission, we'd have had to cancel the whole event. And with teenagers, the "same shirt" look helps us be more responsible for those we're responsible..and, if, heaven forbid, anything should happen to one of the kids, we're instantly identifiable, by the shirt. Sooo..we should hopefully see some of you guys there Saturday afternoon..though we'll probably skip out on Sunday, since Richard's not up on putting on his uniform just to go watch planes, most of which he sees a lot, anyway. :) Dee :) |
