Re: Osan lock down???
I think the commander's channel has the information. Umm lets see what can I say w/o saying to much. Something was stolen and it was found near Osan. It could potentialy hurt people so they locked down the base. I don't know how long it'll last. The main strip outside the base (I think the posters said "entertainment district") is off limits. I know earlier in the day, if you were military and did not live off base they wouldn't let you off, but I thinik that changed now, not sure. I wish I could elaborate more, but you know OPSEC. Just be vigilant :)

Re: Osan lock down???
Yeah that's what my hubby was telling me. So I guess there's no way for me to know when my hubby can leave the base. I live off base, and he has his dorm on-base.

HUbby just told me there is a list and if you aren't on it (anyone who gets OHA is on it) you can't leave.

Re: Osan lock down???
From Digital Chosunilbo, a Korean newspaper on the web....Open source reporting and much more in-depth and accurate than what I received as dependent residing off base.
Jeep Attack Leaves Marine Dead, Military on Alert One Korean Marine is dead and another is injured after they were struck by a jeep and robbed while on the way to their unit in Gangwha-gun, Incheon on Thursday morning. The Marines were returning to their unit after guard duty at a coastal post when they were hit by a Korando jeep at 5:55 a.m. After hitting them with his vehicle, the driver attacked the men and made off with a K-2 rifle, 75 bullets, a grenade and six explosive shells (similar to grenades). Sgt. Lee Jae-hyuk and Pvt. Park Young-chul were taken to a nearby hospital, where Pvt. Park died Thursday evening. Military and police check drivers on the Choji bridge in Ganghwado, where a criminal hit two marine soldiers in his car and made off with a rifle and shells on Thursday. ![]() The attacker is described as a 170-cm tall man in his 30s wearing a beige jacket. He was carrying a weapon which he used to stab Sgt. Lee in the face and thighs. He took the Ganghwado beltway to escape. Police received a report that the attacker's jeep passed Cheongbuk toll gate on the highway between Pyeongtaek and Anseong in Gyeonggi Province at 7:38 p.m. and gave chase. Police found a Korando jeep on fire without number plates under a bridge in Hwaseong city in Gyeonggi Province, six km from the Cheongbuk toll gate at 10:40 p.m. Police believe it was the same vehicle used in the attack and they are searching for the driver. Korea's armed forces at 6:30 p.m. issued a "Jindo Dog One" alert, which is the highest level of preparedness against spy activities, for areas in northern Gyeonggi Province including Gimpo, Gangwha and Ilsan. The military and police stopped and questioned drivers on major roads in Gyeonggi Province. They believe the attacker is likely to commit another crime or terror acts with the rifle and ammunition. Re: Osan lock down???
170cm, 30's, beige jacket. Geesh that is one generic description. Am I to assume that since no nationality was given the guy is Korean?
Anyway the offical base responce says the vehicle was spotted within 10 miles of Osan, and they believe the individual is in Songtan, hence the lock down. The e-mail also says "As always, it is important everyone maintains vigilance. Report suspicious activity immediately to the Security Forces Control Center, 784-5515/031-661-5515. Please ensure widest dissemination." |
