Jessee has a good idea if you are at Osan.
If you can get up to Seoul, The Dragon Hotel is a good spot. It costs a little, but you can roam around all the Hotels facilities for the evening. www.dragonhill.com |

Re: Plans for New Year's?
Do you know if the Korean Nationals celebrate New Year's? Do they have any big New Year's traditions?

Most all Koreans still celebrate their birthday on New Years Day, according to old customs. It is very convenient, and you never forget anyone's birthday! Some still hold out for Lunar New Year. Babies are born after ten months, not nine, as in Europe and the U.S. There are cigars on the "Birth" day if it is a boy. On the 100th day of life is the really big party! You will hopefully hear from a Korean with more such stories.

Re: Plans for New Year's?
So do they have parties in all the bars and hotels for New Years or are the birthday celebrations more family oriented?

Lunar New Year 2008 will be on February 7th or 8th,depending on where you live. The year of the Rat. This will be New Years Day for all of Asia. Parades, street parties, fireworks and all.
January 1 is generally only big with westerners. You may see some fireworks. Some westerners may have parties off Base. Probably Aussie and British and some U.S. school teachers and others who are not U.S. employees; therefore authorized to come on Base or Post only if signed in as a guest. |

Re: Plans for New Year's?
They do have some type of big street celebration that is similar to Times Square. I watched it on TV last year. There were the live bands playing music and at midnight they rang one of the large traditional Korean bells.
