Re: BAH drama

The following link will take you to the DoD site on which you can find the JFTR in Adobe format. Open the file and search for what you're looking for.

...but beware!
Most changes are not reflected on most of that sites web pages.

You have to really search and find the "updates" on that site to make sure you are getting the correct information.

That policy has changed also.

The BAH during remote change took effect in Oct 07 and the FAQ page is STILL reflecting the WRONG information. Local finance offices still are not sure what to brief.

Re: BAH drama

I'm new to this forum and have spent the past couple of weeks reading through the various threads. (Thanks for all of the wonderful info . . .)
We will be moving to Osan in June (the kids and I will be NCS). We will not have a follow on assignment when we PCS. I'm still trying to figure out the whole BAH/OHA thing. Does this mean we will be given BAH from our losing base, despite the fact that the kids and I will be living in Korea, and receive OHA after we arrive? Also, since we don't have a follow on assignment the AF should store our HHG without us having to pay out of pocket, correct?

Re: BAH drama

Glad to see this post! I have been worried about this very issue. I currently work in Reston VA but am serviced by the Pentagon MPF. I bought a house in the Eastern Panhandle of WV and commute the 65 miles to work each day. I was concerned that my BAH would go way down because the rate for the local area where I live is much lower than the amount based on the Pentagon zip code. According to my finance office, my BAH would stay the same, so at least it seems like they got the updated reg to brief.

Re: BAH drama

Wow! This is crazy stuff! I'm about to PCS later this year and planned on moving my NCS mom and daughter with me. After everything I read, it sounded like I would get OHA w/dep rate if they came with me. I'm utterly confused after reading the 4 pages of threads on this BAH topic. Either way, they're coming with me. At least I know that I have to specifically ask my finance office during my PCS process about all of this so I know for sure. Speaking of NCS dependants... can anyone fill me in on the process? I won't be Command Sponsored... I will be able to live off base due to rank (I'm told)... and will ship my POV... do my dependents still get put on my orders and can they fly with me if I have an address in Korea?

Don't think it matters if your dependants are on your orders if you are NCS.
The cost for them to fly will be out of pocket so as long as you buy the tickets they can fly when you fly.

If your car is not on your orders then you will pay out of pocket for that.

So, if I pay, can they fly with me on the rotater even? My biggest concern is having them fly all by themselves without me to help them.

You'll keep getting the same BAH from the base you left from until your OHA starts here. Your OHA will be based on Korea not where you left from.

Re: BAH drama

Sounds like some need to get the latest info from the folks who actually cut your orders. So many variations regarding dependents and flying together, etc. We on the forum mean well, but what they say at your facility is what counts! If it sounds wrong, ask for a supervisor...
Get it done ahead of time, because there may be no seats together or even on the same plane if you do not get it all set up a few weeks ahead. Passports and all need to be done before the flight is set up. Good Luck
