More on housing - on base

I read that they just opened 2 new buildings of housing in the last few months. Does anyone know if they allow contractors and families to use on base housing or is it just military? I will be working exclusively on base so that would sure be nice to just live there as well.

Re: More on housing - on base

The housing towers on Osan are only for command sponsored families of active-duty military personnel. The new housing was built to accomodate all categories of the above mentioned. I believe anyone not in this situation--contractors/civilians/DoDDS--must find a place downtown. From what I have read there are many places fairly close to base but it will depend on what your specific needs will be--i.e.--#of bedrooms/bathrooms, size desired, etc. Hope this helps.

Re: More on housing - on base

BUT -- and this is a big but...there is a civilian guy coming here from my last base who just emailed me. he was asking about the conditions here at Jurisan -- leading me to belive he will be living in Jurisan. he is bringing his wife. i assume he has a command sponsored billet -- again a NSPS civilan...

so, maybe there is a way for civilians to live on base. check out the housing office when you get here -- people are pouring into this building -- around 5 per day...

If you are a civil service employee who is categorized as "emergency essential," you can live on base. But that also means that you have to stick around if the war starts back up. I don't know what percentage of civil service employees are emergency essential. Like a lot of things related to the military, it seems the higher your rank (GS grade in this case) - the more likely you will be deemed emergency essential and thus be allowed to live on base.

I don't know if this is still the situation, but as of a few years ago, civil service folks (even those not deemed emergency essential) could live at Hannam Village.

Re: More on housing - on base

Sorry for my ignorance, but if I understand you correctly, I may qualify. I have a CAC mission essential card. Is that what you are referring to? I believe my grade on that shows a GS-12. No clue what that means or if it's high enough.
