Hey All,

We've got about a month left...I'm excited and nervous. Any last minute advice, tips, recommendations? I'll take it all hehe.

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

Do not skip sleeping for 48 hours before your flight!! That was my brilliant move.

If you haven't yet packed out your HHG, I would think about shipping some items ahead of time to your Osan PO address. It's maddening waiting for stuff to arrive - I had to keep reminding myself not to buy things, they would be here soon.

Be sure you at least ship some pillows, sheets, blankets and towels. I wish I had; we had to buy some to tide us over and it just wasn't the same as having my own.

If you don't have a PO box yet, I'd be willing to accept shipments for you. Just PM me and we can make arrangements.

Make a list of all your phone numbers and addresses of your friends and family. I use that a lot, at least the phone numbers.

Remember that you have to get all new prescriptions for your meds when you get here; they can't do a refill from your CONUS pharmacy here.

Dress in loose-fitting clothes for the plane and be sure to have a pair of socks in your purse. As soon as I am on the plane, I ditch my shoes and rely on my socks. TMI, but I also go with a shelf-bra tank top under a loose fitting shirt because frankly, wearing a bra for 14+ hours is sheer torture.

Go to the bookstore and go nuts buying books to ship over here. That is one thing I really miss - no Barnes and Noble here! The bigger bookstores have a selection of books in English but they seem to be more expensive here, and as far as ordering online, I'm a person who needs to pick up a book and flip through it before I decide I want to buy it. I've already warned my husband that I will be melting my credit card at the Barnes and Noble in the States when we go to visit

That's all I can think of for now; feel free to PM me any time if you have questions or want a "tour guide" when you get here!

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

Gingersmurf,

We haven't packed yet. They are coming to pack just a couple of days before we fly out actually. How long did it take for you to receive your HHG?

Thanks for all the great info. I didn't even think about the bra until you mentioned it. You are so right.

How long have you been is OSAN? Are you enjoying it?

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

I've been here since the end of June and I LOVE my new hometown!! It takes about a month to get the unaccompanied baggage and about two months to get the HHG. It will drive you nuts! LOL!!

Are you going to be living on base or off? I live off base and couldn't be happier I really enjoy living in town.

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

We'll be living off base. I'm NCS. Hopefully, we'll find a great place. How big are the master bedrooms? I'm thinking about bringing our king size bed...don't know if that's a good idea or not. I'm still trying to figure out what furniture to bring...or store.

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

I'd avoid the king size bed. Korean bedrooms, as far as I can tell, tend to be on the small side PLUS there usually are no built in closets! So you have to take up more room with a wardrobe.

Also, remember that a lot of apartments come furnished or partially furnished. How big of a place are you looking for? I can check with my realtor and see what he has available for you. He found an awesome place for us (after a lot of looking!!) and we are pleased as punch.

We managed to get a single-family home, which is very rare. I'm envious of my neighbor's apartment with it's larger sized rooms and better layout, but I wouldn't trade my private home for the world!

Unless you really enjoy walking and hills, I'd avoid Life Apartments. They are a bit far out from the base, in my opinion. We live about four or five blocks from the main gate, an easy walk. For reference, the popular apartments near me are the Opera House apartments, but they are a good five or six blocks further down my road.

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

What you bring depends on rank and BAH amount. You shouldn't have a problem finding a place for a king sized bed unless you're on an A1C's pay. We lived on and off base with a king sized bed and a sectional sofa - all huge - and didn't have any problems.

Do you have kids? pets?

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

and depending on where you live (newer places), there are closets. The newer apts have closets with great organization.

Re: Arriving in OSAN in one month

Thanks babyfactory! No kids. We do have 2 dogs but my family will take care of them in the states. Could you recommend some apts I should look at? So far I've heard to stay away from the Life Apts. Do you prefer living on or off base?

Gingersmurf,
Who is your realtor?
